I am doing pretty good , especially since I pulled my shot for this challenge and that my score resides in that other one that has the special rules.

Fluctuating ... was at 6.2, down to 5.9some ... like watching stock markets!

There were sooo many nice pictures, but too many flowers for me ... flowers are nice, but with all these flowers, there must be something very special for a flower shot, for it to stand out.

Btw, I myself cast all votes in this one, including the DNMC pics ... so everyone should have votes for now!

Nature seems VERY popular as a subject for this one, doesn't it? :)

I'd be so happy if it stuck near there.

How do you guys know what scores your getting exactly? Like 4 6's and 3 5's for example?

I don't think you can know that amount of detail Kerm, but it is possible to figure out the last vote cast with a little math. Keep a notepad and a calculator handy, and multiply the number of votes cast times the average vote received. You'll have to round it off, but write down that answer for future reference.

For example, I had 35 votes times an average score of 6.3429 (woo hoo!) for a total of 222.0015, rounded off to 222.

Then when I hit the update button, my numbers changed to 36 votes times an average score of 6.3611 for a total of 228.9996, rounded off to 229.

Finally, subtract the previous total (222 in my case) from the second total (229), revealing a vote of 7.

Hope your current score not only holds constant but will climb! Mine is close to a personal best for me... keeping fingers crossed!

Definately a lot of voters don't know what bokeh is. That explains my 4.52. ;o) Oh, well I knew before I entered that that's probably where it would end up.

2 comments. very nice comments.
I think this is one of my better entires, but with a pool of 431 others to battle against only the best of the best will rise to the very top.

OK, I know there are a lot of flowers, but come on people! A photo should be judged on its own merit, not against the competition!

Just like golf; play the course, not the field.

I'm really surprised about some of the pictures. I thought the defintion of Boheh was 'a boring subject made interesting by the use of an out of focus fore or background'. So many of these are just DOF pictures, which isn't the goal.

This is exactly what my shot has..a boring subject made interesting with bokeh ..

It started with an 8 .. to 4.72 in the morning with 25 votes .. up to 5.34 with 33 votes

Stop it!
STOP IT I SAY!

The last 3 times i went to the home page my score has dropped. It's very upsetting to see one's score continually dropping. So you all better stop it before it gets any lower.

Pretty pretty please with sugar on top?

Yay! One comment and it discusses my image's "wow factor" :D

No comments, score plummeting to below average... I thought it a pretty good take on "bokeh" but alas, I am being proven wrong. That's the way it goes!

Bokeh only means something that is out of focus or an element that is out of focus. The 'boring subject' part is subjective at best. DOF consideration is almost a requirement, not a negative. IMHO

that's right - just toss another shovel full of dirt on me. When ya'll get done burying me don't you dare put any of those damn flowers on my grave!

I was up to a 5.6 when I got up, but I'm back down to a 5.3 and sinking fast. Wheeee....
06/21/2006 10:26:53 AM · #72
My score was 6.3 when I went to bed and it's down to 5.89 this morning. It would have been nice to stay over 6.

Done correctly, Bokeh should make a good picture better. If it is a boring picture Bokeh is not going to haul it out of the heap. It is a component of a good picture, not the savior of a bad one.

Well said rblanton. You should have said that in the 12 pages of posts leading up to entry deadlihe. I'm new to DPC, so I'm hoping for more comments. Only 2 from 50 votes - for me comments would seem to be more helpful than a score. I can certainly understand the lack of them though with over 400 pictures in the challenge.

Island girl, I'm pretty close to you...I was above 5 for a while. It'd be nice to stay around 5 for my first challenge.

I started out with a 4.9xxx and when I went to bed I had a 5.000. when I got up this morning I was back to 4.9xxx. I think it's gonna be slow going since there are over 400 photos it be voted on.
