On this site:

So who wants to share their skyline pictures? Who has pictures of a skyline that is on this list?

I know that San Franciscans tend to be a bit too smug about their city, but some of there cities only look good from the sky. How did we miss the list? Ohh compiled by a urban planners group, New buildings, tall buildings give top rating, OK. I still like SF
Sao Paulo? Singapore? Great cities both but not like Chicago or Sydney where you can actually ever see the skyline

While definitely beautiful (I love the City by the Bay and have spent a LOT of time there) San Francisco does not have a "skyline" in the traditional sense, because of its geography. It's a city of hills, and all the tall buildings are clustered at the bay level, so they are backdropped by the hills. It's actually unique, in a class of its own.

Hong Kong is great when you can *see* it :) hehe.
Personally, one of my favorite skylines is Calgary. That grouping of buildings rising out of the prairies has always been really inspiring to me. |

I've always wondered, is that last one from Gasworks? or on a boat? |

No, it's from West Seattle. Several good vantage points from there.

OK, so San Diego isn't technically on the list, but should be!

I mean, those other skylines are all good and such and I wouldn't wanna bad mouth them or anything...
... But you gotta agree the view of downtown Gold Hill Mine, Arizona USA is hard to beat! Right?

OK, here's my contribution. One of the less-common NYC skyline shots, taken from across the East River in Long Island City:

hmm surprised London didn't make the list, what criteria did they use? Just building height or something?
To me, St Pauls Cathedral, Big Ben, the London Eye and the new gherkin building make it a lot more interesting than just sky scraper after skyscraper. |
