Should be good times either way... |

Darn it, I don't believe the 8700 is gonna be able to pull off a shallow enough Dof to make an impact in this challenge :-(

I wonder how many flower shots from ground level with a blurred background there will be in the Depth of Field one? :P
Hopefully I can take some shots of people for it, or something like that. |

If you have closeup filters it will. |

8700 does macro just fine, shouldn't be a problem if you're willing to go macro for your shot. If you want a full-scale, shallow DOF shot, like a landscape, that's a different kettle of fish for sure.

I'm going to pull out the 50mm myself and see what I can come up with.
It's been awhile since I've had any of the challenges spark an interest in me. This should be fun.

Actually there are ways with a point and shooter to pull off the effect of DOF. You just have to know the limitations of your camera and work within those bounds. You have to exagerate. Put your subject farther away from your background. Will it be the same as a dSLR? Maybe not, but with a little creativity you CAN pull it off. Ask jjbequin if HE is limited when he shoots with a P/S... |

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placings of Shallow DoF I were all taken by P&S cameras.
It's not until 5th position where you'll find a dslr.

Robert's right -- at least, he is if the 8700 is anything like the 5400. As long as you want macro, you can get a pretty narrow DOF.
Here's a shot I took of a ladybug infestation in Yosemite a few days ago. The camera was maybe three inches from the nearest ladybugs here.
And here's one I took a few minutes ago, just messing around. (am making a pink striped flannel nightgown for my daughter for Christmas. shh. :)
. I know this is a pretty boring image (although it's kind of cool at full size). It's not supposed to be a good photo; I was just seeing how narrow the DOF could get. :) |

Not happy now :-( |

Yay, finally a challenge that appeals to me, the last 5-6 challenges really haven´t appealed to me, that and not a lot of time but this one I plan to enter... Now all I have to do is figure out what to photograph ;) |
