I am thinking about making the trip to Akron to see her collections there. has anyone seen them yet, can I get some feedback by chance?

I haven't seen them in person but she is one of my faves... I'd go in a heartbeat if I had the chance. :)

Loretta Lux was featured in American Photo magazine earlier this year. Extraordinary work.

Good but creepy.

Some of those images reminded me of The Shinning.

i'm thoroughly unimpressed but that's just my opinion. :)

wow, nice stuff.

Ummmm, Errrr.

I'm not as far unimpressed as JPR, but I'm a bit confused...

It looks like she uses chromakey for some of her stuff, and the art of making kids look almost dead isn't one I'd call stunning.

Definately different, and as a body of work it's certainly consistent...

JPR and I will agree to disagree with everyone else. :-).

Agreed!

funny thing is that I actually sort of dig making kids look dead but if you're going through all the trouble you might as well make something more interesting.

I'll second that JPR. Looks like she has mastered the studio (and mobile studio) style.

Light everything evenly and strongly, set the aperture to F22 and you don't even have to worry too much about focal field. Gets those small pupils too.

It looks like her real talents are in makeup.

She has a single look for all of her pictures. She does it well, but I don't feel creativity oozing all over the place.

I've seen better stuff on DeviantArt and I've only spent around an hour or so on that site.

Some of the pics (most notably the girl with the green dress and red ball) look a bit like outtakes.

To each his own.

Did you bother reading any of the website?

Apparently, this is her style, and keying in her subjects to differant bg is part of her style.

Ansel Adams she is not, but, she certainly has a unique way of using, and manipulating the images.

Okay, that was different and I'll leave it at that. :)

all her images are two seperate photos compiled. they are landscapes put behind studio shots with white backdrops. All the bodies are slightly manipulated which is what draws me to the work. None of the kids bodies look quite right.

Just not my thing but I'm happy that she is doing well.

I think getting the really skinny kids was her thing.

ohh gosh, she is my biggist inspiration (obviously looking at "little girl in the park").

I have gained a reputation around school as a happy photographer. I think I'm going to go up soon, as soon as I can get a weekend off of work. are there any dpc'ers that live around there? if so mabey we could have some sort of out and about get together.

I like it...it's different....but my first thought was of that old book, "flowers in the attic".

Ditto.
For those who've only seen her photos on the website: don't form an opinion until you've seen the prints. There's magic in the prints that is completely lost in the 600 by 400 jpg-s.

And, hey, forget apertures and focal fields. Look at the PICTURE.

I like her work because she is using the digital media in such an artistic way. Yes, her images are blend of photoshop and regular photographs all morphed together; and you can argue that there is nothing new about that... but she is creating "art" to her own specifications. It just so happens that the media she uses is digital photography. And that's cool.

Such is the nature of art....

I'm not saying I wouldn't go to a gallery to look at her work and continue the grand debate, but looking at the small images (as Didymus mentioned), I can see her style, but I don't really like it personally.

I've been to an exhibit or two where the room was 50/50 split on whether the artist was gifted or looney. It makes the converstation more animated to have people debate/discuss the works on display.

If everyone agreed 100% that Loretta Lux's work (For example) was brilliant beyond all belief it would be a sad day for the appreciation of art in general.

my 2c..

I fail to see a contradiction there. :-)

True, it's a very fine, often gray, line.....
