Based on your feedback in the THIS THREAD, I have chosen a group of jurors who have agreed to participate in this experimental juried challenge. The purpose of this experiment is to get a feel for what it's like to enter your work into a juried exhibit. Most juried competitions have a very small number of jurors... usually between 1 and 5. These jurors go through an elimination process to narrow the entries down to a small number of images and then collaborate to choose winners.

The challenge for this project will be the November Free Study. Entering that challenge will automatically enter your image into this experiment. Once the challenge voting has started, our jurors will cast their votes normally. They will then be asked to select their top 10 images to enter into the juried image pool. I will collect these images and present them to the jurors in a random order and they will then cast numeric votes on each image from this pool. The top three photos from that vote will be displayed in a new thread after the voting period of the free study challenge is over.

The jurors are:

bear_music
graphicfunk
e301
jutilda

I will also ask each juror to select a single favorite image from the challenge. These will be displayed as well...

Very cool! I'm looking forward to this and am excited to see the outcome. Nice project John. :-)

Appears you have a very qualified jury (and good consistent monitors to view with, I assume) should be a interesting test.....Good Luck!

Ha ha! You know what they say about people who can't get out of Jury Duty! ;-)

Should be fun and interesting. Last time I faced a jury, well I won't go there.

Nice job setting this up, John. Looking forward.

Great idea John. I'm looking forward to the outcome.

Cool idea. I hadn't planned to enter... but now I just might.

Pardon me, but what if someone want to enter a picture to the Free Study, but would rather not be part of this experiment?

Wow - great idea, John! I was trying to guess at what sort of experiment you were going to try, but I had no idea. This is great!

Gotta start shooting more pictures... :)

I'm with Ursula on this one... I for one do not want to be part of this. Loosing once is enough;-)

I am not sure that I want to be part of it or not, but what I don't particularily like is being "forced" to participate in someone's experiment, no matter how good or well intentioned it be.

Yes, you can say, "You're not being forced, if you don't want to be part of the experiment, don't enter a picture to the Free Study." But that misses the point. I do want to enter the Free Study. I am not sure I want to be part of this experiment.

No problem.. we won't do it. I didn't figure anyone would object since they were entering in a challenge anyway. There are no losers and only the top 3 photos and top 4 juror picks would be displayed...

It doesn't seem like it will amount to much more than a discussion thread talking about photos from a specific challenge. Many photos have been unwittingly pulled into threads every week. What's the big deal?

Someone on the SC please lock this thread.

Ignore the thread when John posts it and move about your business. Why do people have to be such downers when somebody wants to do something?

Just ask the selected photogs for their perm before posting.

John, I don't necessarily object. As I said, I just am not sure I want to be part of it. I never, never like to be "forced" into situations.

Okidoqui. I can ignore. I'm pretty good at that.

What's the difference between this and all the threads after the challenges where people post their favorites that should have scored better?

I'm breakin' it out early this time...

I like the idea and John should be commended for giving the site some inovation.

I never considered the issue of someone not wanting to participate in it. I should have though. I don't have a way to do that so it's a bad idea.

Locking thread per the original poster's request.

I think this is a good experiment and I don't mind being a part of it.

One thing people could do is put a asterisk after there title if they don't want to be part of the experiment.

A person that don't want to participate could do the following in there title. Title * That way when the jury is picking there photographs if it has that "*" after the title they know not to choose it because the photographer did not want to participate.
