This subject is one of my favs and living in an awsome area is a shoe-in. Besides I currently have 3 shots in the challenges that are all getting 6 or better (not my usual fair) and I'm feeling pretty dang cheeky. Planning to kick butt in this challenge... let the landscape smack begin!
(my trees are gonna kick your trees woody butts!)
Here is the link to Landscape one:

I found it the hard way. Is there an easy way to find past challenges?

The way I found it was: Challenges => Challenge History => Ctrol+F => "Landscape".
I think is an easy way... |

Looking at the Landscape results from the prior challenge, I find it interesting that a portrait oriented entry took the 3rd place ribbon.
Hmmm...

How about these? Although it seems I need to find better landscapes around here. Anyone know the closest way to the open country from here? :D |

my living in the middle of nothing isn't gonna help this.... I'll have to work a little harder than all you coastal people haha, if I even get time. |

Southeast Texas with it's vast prairies with sprawling subdivisions isn't the most scenic area. This will be tough. However, I am going to the Texas hill country this weekend. Maybe I can come up with something. My money is on the Oregon coast to ribbon. |

Actually I can think of many instances where a portrait-oriented entry would be better than a landscape-oriented version. Remember, landscapes aren't just limited to grand, scenic views, and a picture of a waterfall, for example, would usually be much better if done portrait-oriented. Even a grand, scenic view landscapes can be effectively done portrait-oriented. But it all just goes back to taste and personal preference on some shots.
I will agree with you though that most landscapes are going to be landscape-oriented.

Oh, I don't think SO... There are a large number of extremely talented landscape shooters on this site. I have posted up a BUNCH of challenge entries that are landscapes that have not done especially well. But thanks for the chuckle!

I am going to Texas this weekend as well, but to Austin, anyone know places around Austin that I can visit for those vast prairies (is this the season?) Hopefully I will get something that would make me cross a decent rating here :)

I'm in Oregon and it is and will be overcast and rainy during the entire contest period, so you are safe!

I don't know about the rest of you. But I've changed my Landscape entry 5 times today. I just took it this afternoon. I have about 10 photos to choose from, and keep coming up with something better. Who knows what I'll have submitted come Tuesday. |

I too live in a wonderful area for landscapes and love to shot them. Unfortunately for me after two years of beautiful fall and winters we are now in the middle of almost non-stop heavy rain. But I̢۪m not giving up and been working on trying to get a bad weather shot that could still score in this challenge. Even an hour or two break in the next few days might do it. |

Well, I'm from Chicago suburbs, and not great landscape around here. Luckily, I'm going to San Antonio, TX tomorrow!

Great country up there, JB. If you get that break, you'll get your shot. |
