By the way I´m not used to beeing rude or disrespectful to people in the forums so if I did hurt anybodys feelings I´m sorry about that.
I personally dont care much for people calling me names in the heat of the moment..... |
I did not call anyone names. I simply pointed out that what you posted was as disrespectful as anything else that came later in the thread. And if you don't care for people calling you names in the heat of the moment, then why do it yourself?
This is what I don't understand - anyone (not just those here) can be disrespectful, rude, and downright mean in the forums, but as soon as they're called out it turns into 'well, that's not what I meant' or 'you're taking it out of context' or some other dodge. Same when hypocrisy is pointed out.
If it's posted, then on some level you meant it. Otherwise it never would have found its way from your brain to your fingers to the post button. I guess it's 'anything goes' as long as you can wiggle out of it later.
BTW - Did Slippy violate site rules? |
well my bad english ......
what I meant is that " YOU CAN CALL ME ALL THE NAMES YOU WANT IT WOUNT MATTER TO ME"
You called me a whiner in a very polite manner and I answered in a not so polite manner back.... |

You only have to look at your comment in my Castle Hill photo to realise that in fact you do have a history of being rude and disrespectful. Perhaps you are one of the most overrated photographers here? |

No I did not. I pointed out to you that you were being hypocritical by posting disrespectful comments and then telling others that in order to get respect you must first give respect.
However, if you wish to call yourself a whiner, go right ahead. |

HOLY COW!!!! Can't we all just get along?!?!?
Slippy was (out of the kindness of his heart) offering free memberships in a silly contest to boost HIS favorite status. I personally added him shortly after I became more active in this site because I find his sense of humor refreshing and entertaining. That was my personal choice. As far as I'm concerned he's earned his place on my favorites. That's my personal choice. Many may add him to their favorites because he "bribed" them, and as Slippy himself stated...
Originally posted by Strikeslip: Yes, I have no shame to go along with no talent, but I do have some $$$, a silly imagination, and a need for validation through the approval of others. |
It's all in good fun. If he's satisfied with getting added to favorites without earning it, then good for him. I'm sure he realizes that he's being added in some cases not by individual effort or merit, but by his "bribery". It's not that big of a deal people! I say let's applaud his effort to give away free memberships. As far as others getting listed on a favorites list, I don't see anyone else "bribing" members and users. It's a safe bet that if you didn't request to be added to a favorites list, then you probably earned it. It may be your personality or your photography, regardless, someone selected you for a reason.
Slippy now has to know that some people have selected him for empty reasons (not in my case), but that is a personal thing for him to deal with. All of this talk about taking away the value of the "favorite photographer" list simply does not apply in any other case. I have been selected by four other members (one of which is my wife). I personally will not try to solicit people to add me to their favorites. I feel this is a status I would like to earn. This is not the case for Slippy. So what! It's his decision! We should stop being so quick to start an argument over something so trivial when there are so many more important things to focus our energy.
Slippy. I applaud you for your sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to this site. Your generosity is much appreciated. Just remember buddy, you earned your place on my list. ;-)

DPChallenge user mesmeraj has sent you the following private message:
Private meaages are PRIVATE.
The forums are not for your personal crusades, nor for posting private messages.
If i wanted my opinion of you in the forum i would have posted it there. Unlike you i have the
manners to keep personal feelings on a personal level.
I wonder if you would post this in the forums if it detailed other private info that gets passed
on in PM's when it is not appropriate for the public forums. A phone number perhaps.

Originally posted by mesmeraj: just out of curiosity, did anyone get huffy and say people would leave the site a couple of days ago when there was a request made to add heida to your favorites so she would hit 1000 faves for her birthday?
I don't see how this is any different. |
I think there's a difference. I'm the one to blame for that "scheme", but in that thread I mentioned first that if people liked Heiða's work and hadn't added her to their favourites, then that day was the perfect day to do that and then she would have the chance to reach over 1000 favs on her birthday. People shouldn't have added her if her work didn't appeal to their likings or maybe only not herself.
This is what I said in the post on Heida's birthday:
Originally posted by Amason:

In this case with this thread, people are only taking part of this scheme because they're taking part of a "lottery" (that I personally think is improper use of this website) or/and just think this is some funny joke.
About why so many more people has added Heiða to their favorites than others, even the next poeple below her on the top 10, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, I think it has more to do about her talented work on this site, more than just her as a person. Yes I think that people like her work here on this site the most and find her work she has uploaded most interesting in whole. It has much to say about her talent, but it doesn't say that she is the most talented here on the site, although it doesn't say she isn't. People are judging from what they see on the site and more people find her work interesting than others work, that's a fact!
It has happened that I have added one of the winning photos to my favorites after the challenges are over, simply because I didn't vote in the challenges and was seeing the photos then for the first time. If photos ends up in top 3 and are displayed on the front page for a week, then that photos are beeing seen more than most other photos, and it's logic that those winning photos are chosen very often as favorites after the challenges are over. |

ok, this is ridiculous. this is a perfectly fine thread that has disintegrated into nothingness.
if there are people leaving this site, it's crap like this that is pushing them away.
ivo: your profile shows that you are 6 years old, and you are acting like it. if you plan on posting "private" messages in public forums, you are doing nothing but discouraging anyone from contacting you in the future. if you're doing it to prove a point, it's been made. enough.
mesmeraj: if you are concerned about your private information being posted, don't send it in the first place. you have no reason to continue sending the PMs. point has been made. enough.
everyone else: keep it civil. if you have an issue with slippy's self-promotion, feel free to express your disdain here. otherwise, take it out of this thread. this hijacking junk is worthless to everyone and is draining the usefulness out of the forums entirely.
if you guys want DPC to degrade into some kind of idiotic tit-for-tat shouting match everyday, that's fine. do it in your own threads, though. the unfortunate result is that you are going to drive away quality contributors and end up killing off your entire audience anyway. |

i will also add that the PM functionality is a SERVICE of DPC and, as such, is subject to the Terms of Use that you all agreed to when registering here.
if you use the PM service to send messages that violate those ToS, you are as liable as you would be if you had posted that message in the forum. |

Dude, give me a way of blocking PMs that are blatant attacks and I will abide to the privacy. I am 6 in my own profile and though you wish to label me as that, it is not impeding upon anyone else's enjoyment of this site. If I discourage these PMs resulting from this type of user, it is a risk I am willing to take. Thanks for your insight though.
My people have laid down their phasers. ;-)

You'd swear you were telling all your buddies what your entry was so they could stack the cards in your favour or something. LOL At least you're being upfront and not doing this underhandedly. I'll grant you that much.

Actually, I thought it was very funny. I couldn't believe I had overlooked adding you as a favorite; this was a great reminder to do just that. (full disclosure: I also added Heidi when asked to, because I thought she deserved it, as do you!) |
