how is that stretching it? people had nothing to gain by adding heida as a fav. and she was already at the top of the list anyway.

Wow! Millions of people, huh? I'd like to be the one who takes THAT photo! ;-)
Some people simply don't add favorites until the challenge is over, and others (probably the majority) didn't vote and only see the image for the first time when it wins.
FWIW, I don't think this is a big deal either. It's just one of those "shrug and shake my head" kind of disappointments. |

It's still the fact that people were doing it because of a call for it.. otherwise it wouldn't have happened. That's a fact. I stand by my belief that the favorites list isn't a true reflection of anything that matters.
This is, ultimately, an arguement like politics or religion however, and we'll just have to agree to disagree. |

Slippy is on my fave list not because of this game he is playing, but because he is a great person who i really like, and has made this site more enjoyable for me. Others are not on my favourite photographer list for the same reason. They add nothing to this site of any purpose IMHO (though not everyone that isnt on my list falls under that qualification, many are just not there because i'm lazy/stupid). Sounds very accountable to me.
As Bear said, there is no RULE stating favourite photographer on this site can only be favourites for thier photographic quailities. The favourite photo is there for that very reason.
Fraud: A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain.(dictionary.com)
Slippy is not being deceitful, he told us exactly what he was doing and why, no tricks here, everything was layed out on the table. People can choose to add or not add him of thier own accord.
He has also stated they are free to remove him at any time.
Although not deceitful, he is looking to gain. You may find his gain unfair - if so, don't add him. Many others (+82)obviously do not feel that way, and it is thier perogative to make that decision, and not yours.
The heida fave is no different than the slippy fave, both were the means to the same ends, to gain a higher number of faves. |

Well in fact I couldnt care less about how many favs mister slippy gets in this theater of his, but is this something we want to see happen every once in a while?
I´d like to think the top fav photographers list is a list of talented photographers beggingers could look up to and maybe set as a goal to get on, not a list of people with clever buisness ideas..... |

Should you be surprised when others don't choose you as a favorite when you are so disrespectful and rude in the forums? Are you simply jealous?
Should you be surprised when others who bring life and laughter to the forums and don't constantly complain and bring everyone down are chosen as favorites?
Some of us appreciate the people who really work hard to keep things fun, interesting, and friendly in the forums. Not all of us enjoy listening to/reading rude comments made by people who can't seem to find anything better to do.
If Slippy has violated site rules, then discipline him. If he has not, then I ask that all of you naysayers and complainers take it elsewhere. This started out as a civilised thread, and I for one would like to see it remain that way.

I'm sure that he knows just how much he's liked around here.. how could he not? The fact that I think a list doesn't matter in any real way (I never said meaningLESS).. doesn't have anything do do with his popularity or talent. I'm just one voice among many. |

No *you* might have added heida for that reason, but you can't speak for the people in general.
I did it to give her a little ego stroke or whatever you want to call it for her birthday.
I added Slippy today because i noticed i hadn't already and i happen to think he adds a whole dimension to this site. A comedic one. Lost to some obviously. I don't want the free membership - if i do win it i'm giving my membership to someone who is either under 18 (no credit card) or lives overseas and cant make a forgien transaction.
Slippy has just offered to give 100$ to keep the site running (maybe pay for that new router (; ) what the heck is so upsetting about that! |

Nazgul has NOTHING to be jealous about as his work is some of the best on this site. yes, sometimes his tone is abrasive but english is not his first language. i don't care for name calling but it's done here all the time and even in this thread...just a bit more subtly.

Anyway.. my final word on the subject.
I'm sorry that we, as a group, have to be so polarized about things all the time. I'm sorry that any little thing that comes up degenerates into what this thread has. It's not worth it to me to pursue it any further.
I respect the opinions of those that don't agree with me, and can see your side. Although I don't put much meaning (not *no* meaning), into a virtual list.. I can see that others do. I'm sorry, I honestly didn't realize that it was looked at so strongly.
But please, let's just realize this for what it really is.. a silly attempt by someone with a need for false validation (I'd apologize slippy, but you know exactly what it is.. seek help. heh), which will probably only last for a very short time. He probably won't even get enough to get on the list... but he might. In the end, it's just not worth all of this.. is it?
I'd ask Slippy.. if it's causing this much trouble.. perhaps you can withdraw the offer, knowing that you still have the hutzpah to get people excited. If not.. I'd ask everyone else.. just let it go. Let him have his psychotic episode in the sun, which.. like just about everything else.. will fade off into the unknown within 3 weeks.
It used to be all about fun, once. Now we seem to have to contest every tiny little thing, all the time.

I did not call anyone names. I simply pointed out that what you posted was as disrespectful as anything else that came later in the thread. And if you don't care for people calling you names in the heat of the moment, then why do it yourself?
This is what I don't understand - anyone (not just those here) can be disrespectful, rude, and downright mean in the forums, but as soon as they're called out it turns into 'well, that's not what I meant' or 'you're taking it out of context' or some other dodge. Same when hypocrisy is pointed out.
If it's posted, then on some level you meant it. Otherwise it never would have found its way from your brain to your fingers to the post button. I guess it's 'anything goes' as long as you can wiggle out of it later.
BTW - Did Slippy violate site rules?
