I just finished up.
I noticed that we are limited in how long a comment can be. It will let you type as much as you like, but when you preview, you only see the first 2 or 3 hundred words (I didn't bother counting :)
Is this a limitation of the comment field? A limitation of just the preview? Anyone else see this? Anything we can do about it?

I am not in the club but I would suggest if you have long comments that you email or PM them. The object (IMO)is to make people better. Whether that is done in an open forum or a private setting is irrelevant.
Just put a short comment and end it with "I have more and will follow up in an email". The people will then be aware of it coming.
I think what you all are doing is commendable. Great job. The effort to get better is greatly reduced when good and constructive feedback is being given...
Bravo...

Whoopsie....
Then the critique comments would not be read by someone that might need to read them. >

Since the forum doesn't allow long answers then private answers will have to do. Better to help one than none.
And I will also submit that most comments made to a photographer about an image they took will mostly affect the photographer themselves and not as much the others browsing. There are too many members. It is really a personal critique rather than a public one any how and (once again IMO) better that it is. People learn better in a one on one environment then in a group. Interpreting someones image specific critique into their own images is probably too much to ask since everyone has different views of art, framing, composition, color, contrast and personality.
I understand and appreciate you comment Justine but I this isn't a class with 20 people in it, this is a forum with hundreds if not thousands. Individual critiques must be pointed at just that, the individual. To think that you will affect the masses on a public forum with so many users does not do any one justice. I would imagine the only person really reading the comments is the image specific creator. Which is the way it should be.
Maybe I am wrong but most critiques are always done on a personal level and if they are in a group level it is very limited like a class room.

Davenit, just to quickly address you concerns that no one but the photographer will read the comment. Actually, I have read several forums posts in the past that indicated quite a few people do go back through the challenges and read the comments. I know I did (when I had a little more time), just because it helped me to see what others were seeing. That was probably where I learned the most about photography.
If you are worried that it is too long for the comment box, I don't htink that is a problem. I, too, had a lengthy one, and the entire thing did not show in the preview box, but it did appear when I posted it.
Having said that, I don't mind sending a pm or email to give the critique to the person, but it is easier for me at this point to leave it on the page with the others. And who knows, maybe someone will read my critique and learn something that will one day make them famous. (Karmat is now rolling on the floor laughing at her own hilarity. or delusion.)

I believe that there is a learning opportunity available by reading others critiques. It helps me to understand what makes other people 'tick' and also opens my eyes to some views that I may not have seen....

Whoops :) I saw it cut off in the preview and I trimmed my comment down... My mistake :) Thanks for pointing this out. Now I can get long winded again :)

I'm done with my assigned photos 40, 86, 132, 178 and 224.
John left a CC critque on "Blue Genes" before me but that didn't stop me from doing another one ;-)
I'm sorry that I can't write these critiques sooner, because I have nearly no time during the week. But I hope they are welcome anyway.

Heck no! Maybe I could start asking for TWO critiques every week. That way I can learn TWICE as fast!!

i was looking forward to getting a critique club critique (having landed on an odd number last week), unfortunately, i didn't get one.
but ... i read a lot of the other ones that have been posted and it was very interesting and helpful to get someone else's insight into a photo.
i appreciate all the work you guys do, thanks :)
