Um.. I was being purely sarcastic. The "narcissistic ramblings" referred to *ME* and me only. Sorry if you took it to meant you. I didn't mean that. I was just being a buttface.

So you get a bit upset, whats the big deal? Why do you get so worked up about it? |
I guess because this is one of the few sites I bother with. I don't want my time here to be scrolling past people who post a LOT and post stuff I can't take. Some people are just UTTERLY whiny. I wish we could turn off entire forums - such as the Individual Photo forum - that are just extra stuff to go through. I dunno - I LOVE dpc and I don't want to ignore the forums entirely...as I said, i'm not all emotional, riled up, just .. *sigh* Ya know? Just irked sometimes.

Hehe.. no no.. I'm well known for posting my own insane silly narcissistic stuff. I was trying to turn the thread into one about me. Sadly backfired it did.

On a purely technical note, by the way, since DPC is tables-based, you can probably do this yourself client-side by writing some Greasemonkey code if you're using Mozilla Firefox. |

oh, I would like to add that I've made close to 3,000 forum posts in my time here -- if I don't tend to make someone angry from time to time, then I'm not sharing my opinion properly.
I realize that not everyone is going to agree with my opinion, and I am not going to agree with theirs, but I don't personally think I've ever been intentionally rude or demeaning toward another person based on anything...especially their income or what they can and cannot afford.
Has anyone ever taken something I've said as rude, inconsiderate, hurtful, thoughtless, or mean...well sure...but I've seen a lot of posts from generally nice individuals that I thought were all of the above from time to time as well.

mavrik, instead of three pages of posts about someone who bothers you personally but the rest of us don't really know who you are talking about, or what they said, why don't you just confront the person and let the chips fall where they may?
Just a suggestion that might help you get it off your chest.

It probably would be a nightmare if you sat down and started from scratch, but since this feature is widely available in other forums, I'm sure that most of the admins/staff on those sites didn't sit down and code it themselves.
I personally don't care if this feature gets implemented or not, but this particular barrier to doing so is about as flimsy as they come.

Because I'd like a solution, not a confrontation? I think I explained this above, talking to GeneralE. It's a feature on a number of forums - one I'd like to see here.
SOMEONE remind me why this web site suggestions forum is here?

I believe GeneralE was responding to DanSig's somewhat extravagant list of desired features (the majority of which are implemented in no forums software that I am aware of), not the general concept of a simple killfilter, which is pretty much identical in code to anything else that alters forum output by means of external table searches (the icons and lens information comes to mind). On the other hand, most other forums sites are running pre-made software with simple reskinning, which either has a particular feature or not, whether or not the admins can code at all.
Regardless, there may be an unacceptable performance hit depending on the way that the exact SQL calls and forum displays were implemented -- one extra call per entry would add up really quickly with a lot of users, and even one extra call per page view might not be so hot. And as I said before, if you think it's simple, you can do it yourself in Greasemonkey, and then post it here for everyone else to use, which avoids the problem completely. If you want it so much, all you have to do is do the work for it. |

Have you ever used the Report Post feature when your nemisis posts something that you find so intolerably irritating? Maybe the SC/admins will agree with your point of view and take steps to straighten the fellow out. That might lead to a solution for you.

wow hmm never seen a reason for this "Block individual users" option to be used/wanted on this site. Just scroll past the person you dont want to read as said before. I actually like reading what people have to say.

If I blocked someone, it wouldn't affect your ability to read them.

Oooooh yes you have! You've called me a lens snob and worse on more then one occasion.
This is just a blog. It's not like I'm hearing it from my mom. I have taken a few negative things said to me on this site to heart because they were personal attacts (not from Deapee), but in retrospect it all seems silly.

OK, let me rephrase...I don't personally think I've ever been intentionally rude or demeaning toward another person based on anything...especially their income or what they can and cannot afford, unless that person either has done so to me, or I feel as though they can take it and it won't be that big of a deal.

Well, as I see it, it has already been proven at least once in this thread that what people say and how people hear it can be two different things. It can be the cause of many misunderstandings. I know from my point of view that everyone here has been kind, patient and very helpful when I ask my dumb questions. I didn't expect to meet this many good people on here and I won't let anyone's bad attitude spoil it for me.( And if anyone thinks I am speaking of their attitude right now, you are wrong, I am speaking of no one because like I said, everyone has been good to me.)I just mean that no one is going to ruin the experience here for me, I won't let them. I think our diversity adds spice to the forums and a little agreeing to disagree just keeps it lively. Hopefully people won't be mean in their comments because there are people who really are sensitive and take hurtfulnes to heart. But such is life and we can try to hide from it, but it's generally better to face it, take the best from it and keep moving. Still getting things off your chest feels good sometimes. Guess that's where the "rant" thread comes from, Funny, I have not visited there, only thing I rant about lately is Paypal keeping me from becoming a full fledged member.:( |

Hmmmmm...

Garbage lenses? Hmmm, I think one of those is my lens...
< click to go check what garbage lens I have >

I thought we were suppose to be helping each other learn, and grow as photographers here, hence the individual photo forum! Am I wrong? I admit I don't read everyone's post but this site isn't here for purly my happiness, so what I don't agree with all the views of everyone but that's life and I stay out of rant forums unless it something that is very interesting to me. I think to block users is to be close minded, you never know when someone will say something helpful, though some threads are just crazy but just don't participate there. I'm sure you'll want to block me now too, sometimes I can come across harsh, sorry!

There's a user or two that totally ruin my DPC experience and without leaving, I would like a way to eliminate those people from my DPClife. UGH.
