I have a Fantasy shot that I don't really like that much..it is around 5, and that is plenty high enough for me on this one. Yet in Beauty thought I had a shot that worked and i liked it...Naturally Framed really liked though there were obvious challenge issues.

Anyone else have a shot they thought scored too high in a challenge..and one that you liked that didn't do well? Post both...

Thought this one deserved much better than the 5 it got.

The one that I figured would do bad. It took the shortest amount of time and was by accident that I flipped it 180 degrees and liked it. Also my highest scorer at 5.677

You might think I'm crazy, but scored too high?

Thought would do better, that's easy, half my entries! ;-)
But this one is relatively current:

I really expected this one to do better:

And I never could understand how this scored as high as it did:

But then, I really don't seem to be a good just of my own photos generally.

Yup TooCool, you're officially crazy. I'm sending for the straight jacket as soon as possible.

I can out do them all! With a 5.295 and a 59%

The results of the granular challenge against my Decisions entry (5.177) resulted in my created image (that thankfully bombed, restoring my faith) in the Naturally framed challenge. That image was destined for brown - I have no idea how it didn't get it...

I was very pleasantly surprised with the way this one scored. I was fearing a 4.3 or so. Turns out it was my 9th highest-rated shot!

I really had higher hopes for this one but of course, it's a bit "out there" and the processing isn't the clean, stock-ish type that most voters perceive as being fabulous. It still got a fave (thanks, JPR) and I really like it myself, even though it's my lowest-percentile ranking to date (6%).

Thought that this one would do better then 130th place.

I definitely think this one deserved to do well. I never saw it during voting, but I would have scored it high.

Very nice shot...probably suffered due to the Marlin Perkins effect.

What an awesome shot. I saw some of the others and this one should have been in the top 10! Its different and, to me, stands out. 10!

Bandit, as an exercise, try this. I believe it could have done better too. Putting aside for a minute that your parrot isn't sharp, there's some other stuff to look at.

Whether you believe it or nnot, there's enough emperical evidence on composition "rules" to make it valid to try and get your images to conform. The 'rules' simply state what it appears are attractive characteristics to viewers of paintings, video or digital images.

Briefly they go like this. Viewers are attracted to images where.....
- the visual flow of the image goes from bottom left to top right. This is the most pleasing to the eye

The 'Rule of Thirds' is
- Images that have the main point of interest on either a vertical or horizontal line that divides the canvas into thirds.
- a point of interest is stronger if it sits on the intersection of both a vertical and horizontal thirds line and is most pleasing to the eye.

Your image is too symetrical and the important bits are too close to the borders. I played with it to see what the application of the Rule of Thirds would do for it.

or

Just some thoughts about "why?". (I think the first one looks best, don't you?)

As this image has come in the top 6 of various comps i have entered it in I was hoping to get a little better than this.

Most of my shots I think should do better, but then again I would do, I need to get the wow factor in more shots to get higher i suppose.

I liked this one, but didn't think it would do anywhere near as well as it did and I almost didn't enter it. (Very glad I did) :-)

Second challenge ever, was disappointed at the time, now I wonder what could have posessed the voters for a 5.7 ?

put heart and soul and a lot of thought into this to try to break the 6.0 mark. same basic score of 5.79, but so much more work to get it! I was a little disappointed.

This is my highest score ever and I didn't expect 5th place. It's full of technical flaws (White stripe on background. Color is a little too blue, went overboard with the Neat Image). It seemed to have an emotional impact with people despite the flaws. BTW, she is now cancer free :-)

I was surprised to see this one score as high as it did. I played a lot with cropping and in the end was still not satisfied with the composition.

Love this shot. It was a candid snap, and the background is overexposed. I think I've learned some things since and now can do better. But I was still a little disappointed.
