This photo by BradP made me wonder which eye is most often used when looking through an slr viewfinder. I'm right-handed, but I use my left eye when looking through the viewfinder. What about you?

Notice Steven Spielberg and Brad are using their right eye.

Left, and I'm left handed. I've been trying to use my right, since it means pressing less of my face on the LCD, but I find it difficult, either out of habit or maybe vision (though now I don't remember which eye is atually better).

Here's a previous post about which eye many of us old-timers use. ;)

I think everyone has a particular eye dominance. I'm right handed, and right eye dominant.

left eye, right-handed, but left handed at most other stuff. Even answer the phone with left hand/ear :)

My left eye is what they call a lazy eye. So it tends to nap during shots.

Obviously I use the right eye.

depends on the subject. If I am after an action shot, I use my left so as to have the ability to open my right and time my shot.

Right-handed: left eye, left hand and ear for the phone. Tried to use my right, but it just didn't feel right, felt ackward. -Christine

I use my right eye on the viewfinder, but I've been practicing using my left to monitor the scene outside while zoomed-in and keeping the exposure/focus locked.

I often use this technique when trying to shoot bird photos -- there was a hummingbnird which would always return to the same twig. I'd keep it aimed with my right eye while watching for the bird's approach with my left (the wide-angle view). It works for other action/panning situations as well.

Most often with my left eye... however, i find myself using my right eye while shooting sports sometimes so i can watch in the peripheral areas with my left eye... sounds sorta odd huh..

As I noted below, I often use my left; the problem though, for me at least, is that if the light is strong from the back/side, I find it interferes with my full attention/perception of what's in the viewfinder. I often find myself now covering the left side of my left eye and the camera while looking through. It seems to me to be the only way to see the full brightness and contrast of the scene.

Anyone else notice this?

I tried to solve this by buying one of those larger eyecups for the viewfinder, but I couldn't find one for the Canon Rebel (or the XT).
