23. I started a thread asking for comments and no one commented. What should I do?
A. You should bump it every 5 to 10 minutes. If it ever floats below the bottom of the home page it will sink into oblivion and will be entirely unrecoverable.
24. I see people posting comments that just say "bump" what does that mean?
A. It means they're desperate and the rest of DPC has been staring at their collective navels instead of replying to threads as they are supposed to.

Answer: You have time for a job and family ? Seriously, ask your mom, sister, girlfriend/wife to please stop posing for other DPC members.

25. Should I use humor in my challenge photographs?
A. Absolutely, but since this is an international site, post the entire text of the joke in the title! Just don't misspell any words in teh (sic) title.

26. When did rubber duckies stop scoring well?

Answer: As soon as you entered yours. Now go away, copycat. Don't pollute the birds-of-prey.

27. I'm bored. What else is there to do?

Answer: Take up knitting. There is NOTHING else you should be doing, unless you want to perhaps ask how everyone got their username.

Sidetracking thread to remark: when I was growing up, it was an ABSOLUTE RULE that if a child said s/he was "bored" in our family s/he'd be assigned an immediate and onerous household task to do. We learned early on that boredom was not an option...

Now back the FAQ's, LOL.

Robt.

28. I can't come up with a good idea for the challenge, what should I do?
answer: Do anything to avoid skipping a challenge. Take a last minute shot of anything, then give it a long clever title that is the only tangible connection to the challenge topic. Then post in the forum how the voters are all close minded idiots that can't see your artistic vision.

29. People keep commenting that my picture is too small, but if I make it any bigger it won't fit on my screen. What should I do?

Answer: Upgrade your DOS version.

30. I have a really, really, really, really, really fabulous image to submit for the challenge. Should I put a border or frame around it before entering???

By all means, yes. The bigger and gaudier, the better. In fact, be sure to use the brightest color in your image as the frame color, and make it wide enough that it becomes the focal point of the picture. This will REALLY make your image stand out. When you get comments about the border being obtrusive or ugly or detracting from the image, remember that the voters are narrow-minded and stupid. Also start a thread about said voters, because that has been proven to turn the tide of change at DPC.

30a. Am I allowed to only use ONE border?

Answer: Use a whole bunch of them and create a big stink, pissing off members for not thinking of it first thinking it was cheating and somehow getting away with it. Only one condition on using multiple borders - do a tutorial on it to somehow make it better.

31. Why don't my pictures score higher?

Answer: They simply aren't any good. Give up!
05/30/2005 02:30:55 PM · #44
32. Why don't my pictures of burned skies and moody landscapes score as high as others' photos do?

The answer is simple. In order to win a ribbon with a burned sky and moody landscape, you must move to Iceland. That, or take an extended holiday there, setting the date on your camera ahead for every shot in the hopes you can shoehorn them into challenges by creative title usage. Iceland is your only hope. ;o)

33. I'm a new member here, and I can't seem to get anyone to comment on any of my images. Why? Are you all snobs and clique-mongers, or what?

Answer: No, but there's a modest initiation fee. Have you paid your US $5.00 yet? If not, send it to Bear_Music; he is responsible for collecting this fee.

34. My photo finished in last place. Why don't I see the "Brown Ribbon" in my profile?
A. That would be redundant.

I am so pissed off at the dumb ass low balling voters. My pretty pretty picture is only scoring 4.8 and I think it deserves at least 6.1. What can I do?

A. By your own standards (you have a 3.8 average vote cast) you are receiving a higher than average rating. Stop whining and be happy with your score.

36. What is this "DPC Enquirer?" - Is it affiliated with this site?

Answer: Well, no, but when you clicked the agreement to enter DPChallenge, you also agreed to be lambasted, lampooned, ridiculed, and generally made fun of on any other loosely related sites (this applies to your images as well).

37. Can I sue the Enquirer?

Answer: No! Didn't you read #35?? Actually you can try, but you must confer with DPC resident attorney, skiprow, for a not-so-small fee he performs all mediation and litigation.

38. I just clicked on the new challenge to vote on the images, but not all the thumbnails are showing. What's wrong ?

Answer: Nothing is wrong. D & L have implemented new software to pre-screen the shots that should have never been submitted in the first place and will be a waste of everyne's time to even look at them. Send D&L and the entire Site Council PM's immediately to thank them for the new process.
