We have a few of these in the zoo. Kookaburra's are pretty cool to shot. The peacock tail is awsome! Thanks for the post. |

I heard a sound with my own ears that had been described to me by veteran bird watchers. It was louder than you can imagine.

Some great shots in this thread. Jere are a handful of my recent waterfowl shots.
All taken with a D70 and a 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR AF Zoom-Nikkor
Sometimes you can find the most amazing birds in the most unlikely locations. All of these live on the grounds of the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel and Casino
African Grey Crowned Crane
The next 3 are of a Mandrian Duck drake, an Asian member of the Wood Duck family

Hey! I got some North American Wood Ducks too!
They are such pretty ducks. Nothing like those asian ones tough.. wow.
(I also wish I had a 400mm zoom lens! hehe)

Those are some great shots Bobby!
I snagged one of them this weekend:
What a spectacular color scheme!

You know it is a toss up as to which of the Wood Ducks has the best colors. The Mandrian no doubt has the more impressive mantel with its long feathers and the ability to flare it out but I think that the North American cousin actually has the more vibrant color scheme.
Artvste, I love the action in your Wood Ducks shot
Brad, that is a really nice shot of the Mandrian, where did you find him?

Was at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego County.
(there were bands on the legs, which I cloned out btw)

There are some fantastic shots in this thread and it`s really whetting my appetite for getting out and doing some wildlife work.
Even though it`s a subject I really enjoy, I haven`t done any serious work on it up to now.

Hi Birdbrain Kyle!
Was wondering when you would stumble in on these.
Better go hide now. LOL

My first car was a white '78 Monarch with a green top that we called the mallard. Hmm... |

Actually I was referring to me hiding.
:)
At least now we understand you a little better when you're feeling "down".
I know - keep my day job!

Laurie, I love the Eagle shots. They are such a stately bird and you really captured that in that series of images.

Although mine pales by comparisson, I had to trek knee deep in snow in the woods to get it, and well I like it.... hope you folks do to.

Well, maybe ditch the day job for photogrpahy!!! No, I meant that you don't need to hide - I am quite happy to be a virtual duck and it doesn't bother me a bit being compared to them! lol Besides, their butts are a lot cuter than mine.

OK - now you need to quantify that statement Birdbrain Kyle.
We've seen your legs (or a part theroef), now to show us your butt and we can better be the judge of your statement.
Oh man am I gonna' get myself in trouble yet.
