Well I am still laughing about this one:

Dear Robert,

Good Day.

Since I found so many beautiful photos in your web which I believe you have spent a lot of time to take them, I write you if I could get the free photos, or even buy from you and have the right to use it on our products. For your information, we are a toilet seat manufacturer in China and recently we are going to develop a MDF seat with 3D artwork. The MDF seat is a kind of toilet seat made of medium density fiber and the 3D artwork is to print the photos onto the surface of MDF seat. For example, please take a look at the whale which is printed on our MDF seat..

Your earliest response will be highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Kevin Leong

hmmmm....shouldn't that be Flushman Enterprise Co., Ltd? I am somewhat used to having some of my work ***** upon, but not literally. Any thoughts about this?

They say any publicity is good publicity. Heck, I'd do it for a free-sample! Hang it on the wall - a great conversation piece.

I'd stop short of sending them any self-portraits or pictures of the kids...

Looks like you hit the big time, Bob!!!

I would definitely go for this! Make a few bucks, get a few free samples (free samples should definitely NOT be a problem since most of the cost is in shipping the containers overseas)...

Hey I need to get a hold of this guy. I think these would be great in a hotel. Something different. I'm alwasy looking for something different to make my hotel a little friendlier and homey. Imagine a guest coming to check out in the morning and stating to me "I cant believe how beautiful your toilet seat is". Then again you get those that will probably use the seat as an ashtray put his smoke out on it. Oh well.

You need to send a picture of a toilet looking down into it(seat up), then when they make the seat it would look like it is always open and clean (or dirty)...wonder how many people this would mess up lol

If are open minded enough, why the heck not? Ask them about quantity and such, I do belive that Asians like their toilets more fancy than us westernes.

Did you "google" the company? If they're legit then take their money and start laughing (you're supposed to laugh uproariously on your way to the bank).

Well my advice is not to make an arse of yourself or your work!

This post was found wandering around another thread...I think it belongs here!

What is good or true about displaying your work on a toilet seat? Why not ask the whale how he feels about the display of his likeness in the context?

Is there no object, place or utilitarian process left we can accept for what it is without disfiguring it with kitsch?

I think as an item of utility, I certainly wouldn't want to own a toilet seat with my photo on it...but as a display I would do so at the drop of a hat, depending on the image.

If it was an image that 'looked pretty' but had no emotional value for me, I would definitely do it...It's just too good to pass up, in my opinion.

Sure, if it were up to me, ideally nobody would be putting their ass on any whales or flower photographs...but if they're going to do so, I'd get a good laugh out of the fact that it's my flower photo.

If they can sell them to airports, you are suddenly able to say:

"My work hangs in every major city in the world and is viewed by millions everyday.".

what's wrong with kitsch? it makes people laugh. trust me, i can be as melancholy as every other "right-brain" type person but this life is much too short to spend every day thinking "woe is me".

Oh man I would love that opportunity. I would trade them whatever photos they wanted in exchange for one made with whatever I wanted on it. I would come up with something that would be appropriate to be displayed in that fashion and hang the pieces on my wall. That would be extraordinary.

It makes people mush, watch soap operas and murder their spouses for sentimental reasons beyond their control. :-D

As long as you have some say over which images they use I say go for it!

I'd try to get a deal which would pay a royalty per piece produced (similar to a songwriter) rather than a flat fee: Robert Abplanalp, once one of the richest men in America (and famed supporter of Richard Nixon) got that way by getting one cent ... for each of those little valves on the top of an aerosol can.

In this case I might pass on insisting on a photo credit on each piece ...
