Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

A well known UK artist has just phoned to ask me whether she can paint my Tomboy picture. It's one of those I'm currently selling to raise funds for wildlife conservation.

She has said that once painted it will be made into limited edition prints and that she will a) make sure my name is included in the passage on the back about artist and content to explain that the painting is based on my photograph and that b) I will be given a print for free and that c) she will donate half her fee to the charity too.

The artist was on that April trip to Kenya with me, we got on very well indeed, she's in her 80s and well known particularly for royal portraits and equine paintings plus the wildlife. That trip was, of course, where I took the photograph.

I need to get her a 16x20 print done to paint from (which she will pay for) as the 8x10 she ordered from here isn't sufficiently large to use and she's scheduling in time to paint Tomboy in June or roundabouts.

I'm sooo excited!

Way to go. I tried to paint a self portrait on my person once but when I reached my eyes the paint burned to much.

Did you ever think, when starting digital photography, that you'd have an artist asking for your work? That's cool.

Never!

Though this image was taken on my 35mm film camera not a digital... :o)

I'm aware it might all fall through - she might change her mind, be commissioned to do some other work first or even, god forbid, pass on.
But she's such a lovely woman, and a talented artist that just to be asked is an honour for me.

Congratulations, Kavey!!! How magnificent! I adore my Tomboy print, as well as the Blue & Gold Maasai Mara print...I'm having them matted and framed together. I'm sure the painting will be absolutely gorgeous! What a fabulous and fitting use for your shot, and a great way to raise more money for charity. Way to go! :o)

Jonpink, her name is Mara MacGregor, though Mara is a nickname and I'm having a brainfart on her actual first name. I can hardly find anything on google but I know she's done portraits of the Queen Mother amongst other famous work and has travelled the world painting on commission.

Laurie, I'm so delighted you're happy with your prints and I'd love to see a snapshot of them both matted and framed once they're done! Thanks for buying them and contributing to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
