How do I change the camera to have better image quality?
I already have it set on the 4M F setting. Normal sharpening. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks! |
There are two options. One is to shoot in RAW mode, that way you'll have the following resolution according to EXIF Data:
XResolution:184
YResolution:192
The catch is that the files are very big, allowing you only to take 15 shots with a 128 Mb Xd Card.
The other is to get Altamira's PrintPro Plugin for Photoshop, this allows you to change the resolution of your JPG files according to your printing needs.
I hope this helps.
Happy New Year!! |

the resulotion you see when you open a file is meaningless.
see. //www.scantips.com for a thourough explanation of DPI, screen and printing resolutions, etc.
bascially, a camera takes a picture of Width x Height in pixels - say 2500x1500. There is no referance in inches, millimeters or anything else. It is what it is - 2500 x 1500 pixels. Now if you want to display that on your monitor, say resize it to 640x480 it is just that - 640 pixels wide. No inches, no millimeters, no DPI. It will be bigger on a bigger monitor (assuming both are set to the same resolution - as in 1024x768, etc)
When you print, DPI matters. If you take the same 2500 pixel width and print it at 250 DPI, you get a 10" wide pic. Do that at 100 dpi, and you get a 25" wide pic.

He's joined the Canon 300D Club!!
Congrats Deapee and I'm sure you'll take great pictures and win a lot of ribbons.
Now we have a chance at having a picture in the first place for the S5100 page... 8-) |
My order for a 300D goes in tomorrow. I can't afford an S3, S2 or even an older S1.
Anyone want a S602? PM me. Make ya a deal!

I'm interested, but being in Costa Rica I'd have to pay a lot in taxes to ship it in... 8-(

I am saddened to say goodbye to my friends in the Fuji "S5000 plus" club. I have succumbed to the evil pull of the Nikon D70 and must now retire my trusted Fuji except on special "cake throwing" occasions. My Fuji was my teacher, my friend and my canvass for almost a year and now I've gently placed it where it must rest.......on the shelf beside my Sponge Bob piggy bank. Oh well.
If it is of any comfort to those who still are members of the club..............I am getting slaughtered in the "Mechanical" challenge with my new D70.
May the wind be at your backs.

Hi all. I am new to this website and pretty new to photography in general. My husband brought me a Fuji Finepix s7000 for xmas and honestly, I have no idea what all the buttons are for. Does anyone have any advice on how they learnt to use their cameras? I have tried going through the manual, and I have learnt a bit from it but it is very cumbersome. Are there any good sites I could visit, that would help? By the way, I hope it is ok posting here, I know it says s5100 but couldnt find one for the s7000. Thanks in advance, Lesidhe. |

Welcome Lesidhe! Even though the S5100 and S7000 are almost the same, they have significant differences. I was playing with an S7000 that a friend of mine got for xmas and I got a little bit confused with some of the controls that the S5100 doesn't have.
To atract the attention of the S7000 crowd I suggest to open a new Thread in the hardware forum with a name that will appeal to them. Congrats on your new camera and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time.
Good luck and happy shooting.
Best Wishes for 2005 |

Hey There Roberto. Some of us ain't dead. I'm still around, just hibernating. It's been -18 degree Celcius (don't what how cold it is in Farenheith, if someday knows... Go ahead!) I'm tired of shooting in my appartment. Just dreaming of what I'll shoot outside when it won't be so damn cold!
-Simon
Edit. I guess I was disrupted, it's actually -25 degree Celcius here in Quebec...

Hey Simon!! Glad you're still here!!
I would be a liar if I said to you that I can imagine how cold that is... Costa Rica is a tropical country and our lowest temperature (in the city) is barely 12° Celsius...
So the only thing I can tell you is hang on and don't freeze!! There will be warmer days in your future!!
Regards. |

Sold mine too... sorry to rain on your parade chaps, but imho the s5000z totally owns the s5100 on so many fronts :P Everyone knows they just changed the ccd because too many commoners couldn't figure out how to get anything good from the hexagonal one :)
Still, at least you're not nikon users :D

Thanks a lot Simon!! It was a goal I had in mind to achieve, to win the first ribbon to the S5100 (I couldn't do it for the S5000).
I was afraid I wouldn't make it, as there are many talented photographers with this fine camera participating in DPC!!
I hope to see your ribbon soon!! |

LOL I just saw the thread... I can't stop laughing (I do sound like the worst traitor, thanks Roberto!)
But hey! I'm keeping my S5100, there is still a lot of thing I like about it. Like the video mode, plus it's a good back-up camera. So just so you guys know, I haven't abandonned my goal to get a ribbon with it (someday...)
But (sorry Riot), I got to say... My Nikon is one terrific camera. I have absolutely no regrets (note: I haven't got my credit card bill yet... ;p |
