...I have no idea what you just said ._.

Could you please explain that in more conventional terms? I don't really know my way around cameras that much...

Edit: This is what I'm talking about...at 100%, the pictures all seem fuzzy like that. Usually I resize to about a quarter of the original resolution and it isn't as noticable, but is it normal for the photos to come out looking like that directly off the camera?

Check out Luminouws Landscape - go and read lots of stuff there. it will help you a lot.

Now then, check your camera manual - what is in that picture is called NOISE. A free program called Neat Image can do a good job of removing it, but that program is not super simple to get set up (easy to use onceyou have it set up for your camera). Noise is like film grain - the fast the film (for low light) the grainer it is - well, the higher the ISO setting the more noise you get. The longer the exposure the more noise you get. Set you ISO to the lowest number you have. Set your resoluton to the highest yo have, and set the Quality to FINE. Those setting will help you get teh best capture you can. It is not necessary to use RAW mode 99.9% of the time.

My 602 has a setting in the camera for Sharpness. Hard, normal and soft. Soft does hte least in-camera sharpenging and is the best choice. You can get the normal level or sharpening in a neditor with more control and better results. The numbers above refer to the setting in PhotoShop USM (UnSharp Mask, one of the Filters). For web display you MUST sharpen digicam pics (if you want them to look good). For printing, very little if any sharpening is required.

There are many ways to sharpen a pic in PS (or other editors). USM is the only leagal way for "basic editing" that i have found, besides it works and is simple to use. It has three settings - Amount, Radius and Threshold. For first step sharpening, try 500%, .1, 0. For final sharpeing try 150%, .2 or .3, and 7. The exact numbers will vary dependig on the image contents. To de-haze a pic try 35%, 60 and 1. Play with the 35% - somewhere between 30- and 40 works. If the pic is near the upper end exposure wise, this can blowout the highlights though.

Also, most Fuji cameras tend to be a bit green. I have an actio I got that adjusts it -I use it sometimes (like blue water shots) and it helps immensely.

Here is a shot that I ran through PS using the above suggestions (and some other items)
Before

After

Of particular note, see the color shift?

We got three new allies! ajakk, ronnieb51 & LAST DEACON... Welcome guys!

I haven't took many shots lately (I am looking for a new job...) and the winter has finally arrived here in Quebec. I'll try to take some shots of that tomorrow since I got a lot of sh.. done in the past few days (or has it been weeks?). Meanwhile, deapee is beating me silly in the challenges, I can't let that happen! (The little bugger finally showed us his face in his profile!) Just kidding deapee! I like what you do! (I still don't plan to let you get the first ribbon with the S5100!)

That's the one problem with digital photography - no darkroom to take teh photography student to;)

I need a cherry to try a humorous send up of a ribboner...humor doesn't go over well, but hey, i don't think I can resist.

This is 2004, we don't have to do it in the dark anymore! (Photography that is... Ahem!)

It's cold outside. Can I join your party for just a few minutes? And, if you don't mind......it would give me such a thrill to have a look through your viewfinders.....
Let me in!

I mentioned another site i partiipate in, //www.fujimugs.com.
Is used to be Fuji only...now they have a category for any camera brand.

They have but 1 or 2 challenges a month, and ANY editing is permitted, even combining multiple images. Photographic interity still ranks highly though. It is nice to have more time to get an idea and shoot it, and there are fewer entries. You must still take the pic during challenge timeframe just as here.

Just an FYI.

Luck strikes un-announced... anyway, why did you change your name? I remember you by the nick of Bestagents!

Been Bestagents for 6 years. time for a change.
Professor Fate is a character in a movie - 'The Great Race'. The Villain - lots of evil plans, a henchman named "max", he has great danes as do I, his plans never seem to succeed, and well, neither do mine. I am going back to school to be a teacher, to he professor part will one day fit as well.
All i need is a handlebar mustache...and time to make a new profile photo.

Well, I've just gone and bought myself a Fuji S5500 model this morning and was wondering if I could join your gang? :) It seems to be quite a good camera, I'm pleased with the image quality, although I'm unsure about the Macro mode and manual focus facility. Does anybody else here have trouble with these, and can you give any advice for using them?

Welcome!! About macro mode I don't have any complaints, it helps you get as close as the fixed lens will allow, but with the manual focus... It's really hard to get used to it, as there is no means to be sure about the exact focal point with the viewfinder or the LCD screen. Though I've noticed something that is not listed on the manual: when you're close to the best focal point, you'll see a yellow arrow pointing to the left or to the right; I haven't figured it out yet completely, but it seems to be some kind of guide for you.
All in all, I really think this is a great camera given it's great price and zoom capabilities.
Happy shooting and best wishes for 2005!!!!

Many thanks for the warm welcome and camera advice rgarciah. I see what you mean now about the little yellow arrows in the manual focus mode. I've just experimented a little with the manual focus and the majority of shots turned out great, although my thumbs now ache with all of the button bashing that is required :) The camera is growing on me and hopefully it'll be a keeper.

Thanks again, and returned good wishes for the new year.

To all members of the Club Finepix S5100/5500

I'd like to propose a 1 minute of silence for the loss of Deapee, since he's passed to a better world now.
He's joined the Canon 300D Club!!

Congrats Deapee and I'm sure you'll take great pictures and win a lot of ribbons.

Now we have a chance at having a picture in the first place for the S5100 page... 8-)

I have a question about the S5100 and photoshop/image quality

Everytime I take a picture, and open it up in photoshop, it has a resoultion of 72 pixels per inch. Anytime I open up a picture taken with my bro's camera (a Canon), it says 180 pixels per inch.

How do I change the camera to have better image quality?
I already have it set on the 4M F setting. Normal sharpening. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks!
