Creepy, but effective. A completely maroon/brown background would help. There's a bit of black on the lower right corner.

Impressive flowers. They almost look fake. Two things you can do to tweak this for the insects challenge (of course, IMO only!):
1. blur the background significantly; or totally blot it out by increased contrast
2. make the fly more obvious - by cropping and resizing (assuming that you have a lot of pixels to work with)
Otherwise, the pic stands good as it is, though I'm not too much of a floral kind of guy myself.

Like I've said in many other entries, this isn't an insect, but an arachnid. They are entirely different, though they are both arthropods. It is unfortunate that this scientific misnomer is so widespread. As for the foto itself, it would have been better if you got more of the spider's body rather than the silk.

Technically, it isn't an insect - ie it does not fall under Insecta, but under Arachnida. Trouble is, this scientific misnomer is propagated beyond this site. On the spider: nice capture of colors and even the fuzz.
