This is your typical Black and Yellow garden spider...harmless to humans. They don't crawl after you while you sun bathe either. This female got stuck on the garden hose which I had curled up -- when I picked it up and so I placed her on the towel. They usually make a web and stay there.

Please don't kill these guys if you see them. They are only out in the Fall. They are wonderful for your yard and eat insects you don't like...

Don't kill them? What, are you crazy? Okay, okay, I'll let them be. Besides, she's kinda cute! I love the contrast between the spider and the towel. Nice clarity to this photo, too!

Fantastic Macro of this spider. Only thing that could possibly improve it is if it were on something other than the towel. It really is excellent.

Very nice shot Renee! I'm glad the spider not an insect folks didn't vote this down too hard. I went for a 9, but hindsight says this could have easily been a 10. The level of detail is EXCELLENT! Great color. A tiny nit with the upper right corner, but honestly, I almost missed it. Your title is a killer! All around a very, very good shot!

This one is almoost too scary look at to vote on, but it is such a great picture that I decided to give it a 10.

Good subject, but I don't think a photo of a spider should get a good rating when the challenge calls for insects and an Argiope aurantia is an arachnid. The towel makes it look too staged and unnatural.

Well, your title add so much menace to the shot I can't stop shivering! Great details.

Nice use of the title. The overall color could be a little more enhanced.

Awesome spidershot. Very unusual background, but it works. A little bit too bright in the top right (especially on the spider's leg) ... actually, now that I'm counting, there are only 6 legs. Either this is not a spider or you removed a few (ok, bad joke). Hope you are not getting hit too hard by the "it's a spider = 1" votes.

Anyhow, like the coloring and everything. There's not much I would change. :)

Is that a male black widow? I hope you're not laying in a hospital now because of that. Nice shot.

I like the point of view on this shot. Looks like the spider is coming right towards the viewer. Nice work.

very intimidating (to a spider-phobic person like me) the motion is right there and the underlying textures are nice

Nice "spider" shot, but you flunk the challenge of "Insect".

Technically, it isn't an insect - ie it does not fall under Insecta, but under Arachnida. Trouble is, this scientific misnomer is propagated beyond this site. On the spider: nice capture of colors and even the fuzz.
