Life's Downs & Upsby muur88Comment: Another one on the same lines as the Day at the Beach shot in my favourites. Again, completely wonderful, though here I find the PP a little overdone. |

On the Path to Enlightenmentby jonfrommkComment: Nice, simple and possessing a look that looks more film than digital. Lacking a wow factor and a wee bit of sharpness (something like f/8 will be sharper on that lens I suspect). |

Before You Call For Service Checkby electrolostComment: Mad. (But mad can be good!) A bit of idiosyncratic PP would have led us into a different world and brought out the quirkiness - instead I think most were a bit confused! Message edited by author 2008-01-08 14:42:30. |

Winterby LanndonKaneComment: This is great. I suspect the score would have been infinitely higher if more of the leaf were in focus, but I love the sparkling background and think this is most underrated. |

gimmeby AliciaComment: A cute shot - you know what the technical issues are but the moment you've shared is a nice one. |

Winter Wonderlandby KarenNfldComment: This is lovely and I too am surprised it didn't do better. I suspect it's the large area of shadow that has made the voting sink a bit. |

Fishing at Twilightby EstimatedEyesComment: Love this one - I think the blur is just right and the background is a beautiful watercoloury mess of greys, greens and blues. The composition doesn't bother me as such (we've both received criticisms for centered comp on this free study) but I think the direction in which the bird is moving somewhat negates the space behind it (if that makes sense) so for a greater interaction with the negative space it would help if the bird were towards the top right. Well done for such a brave entry, which you can see has not gone unappreciated! |

solace by librodoComment: It's when you break away from the shots of beautiful young women that you're so often recognised for (though they are always very well executed) that your work really shines for me. It's just a personal thing but I feel that shots like these carry so much more emotional weight - the complex expression, the hand that cradles him, the two little flies... A thoroughly deserving blue ribbon. |

Shore Upby posthumousComment: This one's a stunner. The vastness of the composition highlights the vulnerability and fragility of the child in an extraordinary way. |
