Challenge: Free Study 2007-12 (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda
Date: Dec 26, 2007
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320
Galleries: Abstract, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Dec 26, 2007

A fairly apt title for this shot as not only is it of the Buddhist Peace Pagoda, but it was taken with my new camera and I am - very slowly - getting to grips with all the new things that I can do on it.

Although no doubt many people on DPC would think 'so what' I was really pleased that all the shots I took today where done on the manual setting (and let me tell you there were a good few where I forgot I had to change either the aperture or the shutter speed as the light changed and so which came out very dark/light)

Also used the polarising filter which has had a fine impact on actually infusing some blue into the grey english winter sky

Not sure how well it is going to do - especially given this is a FS - perhaps it lacks a wow factor, but I like it a lot (and am therefore predicting a 5.2!!!)

Well you missed the 5.2, but I like it and if you like it thats what really important...I think a less centered comp would have helped the score, but thats just my opinian...

Nice, simple and possessing a look that looks more film than digital. Lacking a wow factor and a wee bit of sharpness (something like f/8 will be sharper on that lens I suspect).

Now I feel enlightened. I did not know what this building was until I read your comments.

I like the title and i like how you isolated the beautiful shapes of the pagoda top. I think the center crop is a bold choice for this shot. With a bold choice I think a bolder processing style may have been in order. The whites don't quite seem bright enough as if it is a bit underexposed - a boost in levels could fix most of this. Also, the crop is really tight on top and I think a slightly taller image would have feld less crowded and a bit less closed.

To me, the title is screaming for a more wide open composition. The sky is marvelous and I think bringing it out more would have been a big boost.

I love the dramatic effect (in my opinion) the sky has on the Pagoda.

Congrats on your new camera! I think you should have rotated this pic in honor of your banana photo lol.

nice. Not too interesting, since I don't know what it is... but clean sharp photo :)

Could be sharper, and could be brighter. Enlightenment should look joyful, not gloomy.

I'd be interested to see more of the building/sculpture.

I think I'd have cropped it a little tighter to remove the white at the bottom.
