African Hoopoeby sulamkComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I have never seen or heard about a Hoopoo before. Interesting bird. I'd like to see it cropped closer to the bird to get more detail. I'm looking forward to seeing more South African birds. |

Week-1.jpgby bauerfan71Comment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I think the crop is fine, showing openness on the right and clustered buildings on the left, but the snow at the bottom is pretty indistinguishable, almost making it look like it's cropped to the barn. I think higher contrast would help bring out the rustic look of the barn, and may also bring out detail in the snow. |

Chickadee - Week 1by lunachickenComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - Wildlife is going to be difficult to consistently get. Thank goodness for the abundance of birds. The branch in the way is unfortunate. It's a unique pose, with the bird apparently preening. Other than the blocking branch I like the rest of the branches. They help the picture a lot. |

New year New country Old moonby raishComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - Great capture of the crescent moon over a new vs old building scene. I think more perfect timing would be if the walking person was back about 2 to 3 meters so he wasn't up against the pole but was more going into the picture and not out of it, but you can't rewind time. |

Crow Creek Mine #001by ShutterPugComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I love the heavy, fresh, untouched snowfall on this rustic building. It does well in B&W. I haven't seen snow close up in not nearly enough time. ;-) I saw it in the mountains a week ago and that was close enough for me. |

Creature From The Deep?by Covert_OddityComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I was thinking fiber optics. Nice macro. It's difficult getting any DOF at all with this distance, and you got good DOF. Did you have a high f-stop? It's maybe a little too bright at the end of the brush. I like the blue light coming from the back, but I didn't see anything about blue in the description. Is that the brush handle color? |

Seeking One's Museby GeneralEComment: PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - That's a camera? I couldn't figure it out but thanks for pointing it out. I love the contrasting colors, the seemingly out of place woman on her knees and the perspective on the storefront, first making me think it's unlevel one direction, then the other. It adds an element of chaos emphasizing the title. It looks like the muse is available immediately. Nicely done post-processing.
(ETA) Oops! I'm in the wrong PAW thread, but I hope my comment was helpful. Message edited by author 2009-01-03 17:57:10. |

Balancedby TCGuruComment: Excellent work Johnna, and coming back to give you a Member of Week comment. I gave you a 7 on this. I love the tilted head pose. I didn't realize it was a separate mask and paint at first due to the precise alignment and coloring. I also really like how the feathering of the mask matches the flow of the hair so well, and it's good it's a different color so it doesn't blend in. |

Can you see?by jpverkampComment: Very interesting transparent can. Is it a reflection or was it pulled away during a time exposure? |

Tragedyby ytshuvaComment: I love this shot, but I'm trying to figure out how it meets the challenge. Is it some other usage of transparency? |
