PAW2009 Week 1

This is a macro of a standard dish cleaning brush.

One light mounted on the cameras macro ring, one light from below with a red gel filter over it.

Curves adjustment to bring out the red better.

To answer a couple of comments on this shot, DOF is pretty tricky to control at these distances and very slight motion will throw the shot out, to overcome this I use a tripod for the camera with a 2 second timer delay and the mirror lock up delay feature of the D700.

The blue is just the natural colour of the brush, so I decided to offset that with red using an SB-R200 speedlight with the red gel filter over it. I've added aperture and shutter info for anyone interested.

Nice abstract. Little bit over exposed for the macro collection. Little more details should be there in macro shot.

Colors are great. Although it's hard to find some point of focus, I don't think it's a problem here. For me it's a little too light.

PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I was thinking fiber optics. Nice macro. It's difficult getting any DOF at all with this distance, and you got good DOF. Did you have a high f-stop? It's maybe a little too bright at the end of the brush. I like the blue light coming from the back, but I didn't see anything about blue in the description. Is that the brush handle color?

I would not have guessed this to be a brush! Fun macro puzzle :) Love the color and the texture is great.

Wow, you're really making me want a macro lens. That's impressive. I love the blue and red hues coming through. Nice shot!

Must be a new toothbrush, I wonder how much junk you would find on an old one. Yuck! (=

Really nice colors. I'm going to be getting into macros this year sometime. It looks like the DOF is tough to control.

Very cool. I especially like the little water droplets, like you just grabbed it out of the sink and took a shot.

A-mazing! I am really looking forward to watching your photos this year. I don't use my macro lens nearly enough for creative genius such as this, and I'm hoping for some inspiration. You are off to a good start! This reminds me somehow of ice and winter. I really like it alot.
