"Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston by rodfulkComment: I'm not sure what the tie to the story is with this shot. I have only read the synopsis, so I may be missing something. I like the grey tones, but would like a little stronger blacks and whites. The missing left portion of the statue distracts some as well. 5 |

The Bell Jarby grahamgatorComment: An interesting shot that I don't feel ties to the story well. I like the darker tones, and the curious nature of the prop. Would like to see it more centered, and maybe framed better by the plants if possible. 6 |

The Snows of Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingwayby hahn23Comment: Quite a nice image, but lacking in it's tie to the story. Feels like just a play on the title, and then a loose one as it's clearly not Africa. Would have scored it higher in a different challenge. 6 |

The Last Leafby dahlinComment: A very fitting image for the story, or vice versa. The yellow leaf contrasts nicely against the damp soil (from the storm that knocked the last leaf off?) and stones. Would have maybe moved the pine needles, but it doesn't really distract. 7 |

The Water Babies ~ Charles Kingsleyby Ja-9Comment: I like the color and the motion here. The framing is a little weird, but that may have been unavoidable. I have not read the book, only the synopsis, so I am unsure of the water babies are represented as fish or something else entirely. 6 |

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manby namComment: Frankly I'm surprised this wasn't done more. I for the most part want more ties to the story, but this is a little different. It still loosely reflects the story, but is a play on the art commonly associated with this book. For that I can forgive the beard, but the round glasses are a crucial part of that art. 6 |

A la recherche du temps perdu - Marcel Proustby mariucaComment: I have not read the story, only the plot summary. This still feels like an ambiguous take on the story, that may or may not have anything at all to do with what the story is about. The colors and tones and textures all work well, but the edge at the bottom of the page could be straightened or removed. It draws my attention from the content as it is. 6 |

darkness at noonby herfotomanComment: Perfect range of deep blacks and stark whites. I'm not sure what this is, and I can't find a relation to the story. A tad too abstract for me, leaving the tie to the story something I can only imagine. Might have scored it higher in a different challenge. 6 |

The Sun Also Risesby MarfunComment: Outstanding shot! The smooth water with ever so faint ripples, and low sun in the fog, leaving just a silhouette of the trees is very well done. I have only read the plot summary and not the book, but the tie to the story rather than the title is not clear. Would have rated it higher in another challenge, or with a clearer story tie (though I may be missing that). 7 |

To the Lighthouse (Virginia Woolf)by KroburgComment: Clearly a main theme of the book. The warm orange tones are pleasant, the foggy haze in front of the islands gives it depth. Would like a little more story rather than just scene, but that is a minor nitpick. 7 |
