overall i find it rather uninspiring, no offence
the biggest issue here is that it looks like a snapshot of any leaf on any patch of dirt
a 5 from me

I like the colors, dead things, wetness. winter approaches.

Short stories are not novels.

Beautiful story. But the leaf was painted on a wall, not on the ground, and it was ivy.

Dunno.. I like the image, and the story you chose, but I can't really reward an image that is the wrong type of leaf, in the wrong place, not painted(might forgive that), and most certainly not from a novel.

3 4 - bumped a point because I liked the image so darn much. That splash of yellow is just such a strong contrast against the pavement.

I assume that it's inspired by O'Henry's short story. A nice shot that could have been in a lot of other challenge topics. I like the background that reminds of a starry night but I find the picture a bit too common. The crude sharpening of the leaf is not very fortunate

Short Story vs Novel
The Last Leaf
I do like the complementary colors captured here.

Technically well done. I am not familiar with the story, but I should check it out.
Otherwise, I would have preferred more context here; a wider shot with the whole of the tree and one leaf, or a large field with the one leaf.

it's missing the tension. the leaf is already on the ground. there is no expectation. the stems are not finding their place in the composition 4

Whew. What to say? Not a novel but a short story. The image itself seems to be shot as found, which is ok, but doesn't have much else to say. 4

A literal depiction of a classic tale. For me it would have been more poignant if the leaf was still on the tree, the only one left. The yellow works well on the blue/grey background but perhaps the leaf could have been a tad sharper. A 5 from me.

I don't care what novel this is or isn't about, it gives me a beautiful feeling when I look at it, well done. I'm not going to make any suggestions for changes, I kind of think this is a reflection of your artistry.8.

This would have been a better image had this had a different composition. Suggestions...
Close up of the leaf to get the texture and colors up close.

Or

Get rid of the pine needles (or whatever they are)...they are distracting.
Gave it a 3

6...such a good story. As far as this photograph, I enjoy the contrast between the warm golden leaf and the cool hard ground. I might have tried cloning out the stem on the left there and the one at the top right. I find the vignette is fighting the composition as it's too centered. The image would have been fine without it, or if the center of the vignetting were over the actual leaf.

A very fitting image for the story, or vice versa. The yellow leaf contrasts nicely against the damp soil (from the storm that knocked the last leaf off?) and stones. Would have maybe moved the pine needles, but it doesn't really distract. 7

Well yes, it is a leaf. Nice beefed up colours, but apart from it being a leaf it does not connect me to O Henry's short story (not a novel) in which the last leaf falls unseen and is replaced by a painting of a leaf which never falls. 3
Not a helpful comment really. I must not have been drinking.(!)I was nitpicking about the story. My problem with the photo is really visual. It looks like too many of my own photos best forgotten, always trying to fish something from what I happen upon; here you have milked the colours just as I would have - amazing the colours of stone, and you have framed a composition of sorts - simple elements, rule of thirds, contrast, but the lighting is not interesting or natural, unless that is a vignette. A picture has to be more. Just wait for it. Bumping to a 4 just because I have succeeded in annoying myself.

The yellow line on the left really helps the composition. So does the contrast between yellow and blue. But now I've run out of things to say about the image. 4

Very fitting title.
Love how vibrant the leaf is and how it really "pops"
Great composition.
Just not liking the stray pine needles around.

Nice image with several contrasts. You have the lovely splash of color in the leaf contrasting with the black pavement, and the clash between nature and industrialization. Would have a little more kick to it if it was cleaner (ie..all the small twigs removed, leaving just the lead on the road).
