Firstly, I am not sure what the object is, but I have a feeling that it is an urn, if so I am sorry for your loss.
I think that the picture is too cluttered, so it isn't obvious where the focal point is. It would have been possible to have cropped this, but I think a better idea would have been to have put the object directly in front of the window, with no surrounding objects. The window light shining through the glass would have given a very warm glow and brought out the colours and textures of the glass.
Focus seems a bit soft, so focusing on the glass would have helped, or perhaps go into macro mode and take a real close up of the object for more of an abstract effect.
One thing that I have learned from this site is to keep it simple, get rid of all the distracting background and concentrate on the object which caught your eye! I hope that this helps and good luck in the next challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Now this is a picture which I think deserved to do much better! Your idea is very original and you executed it well. Composition is great, with the cheese lined up across the picture. It fits the challenge perfectly but in a unique and humourous way.
Background
Perhaps the background could be a bit darker, boosting the shadow channel would have created a darker background.
Technical
Lighting looks great, perhaps slightly brighter would have been good, this could have been adjusted in post processing. Focus looks a little soft, but your aperture is not the reason....? Perhaps a tiny bit more sharpening would have helped.
My Opinion
Great, original shot! I agree with the one comment that a different colour string would have helped it stand out against the background. Excellent shot which should have scored higher IMO! Good Luck in the next challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Your idea is great, very original approach to yellow. I like the composition that you have used, an interesting perspective. The yellow letters really stand out against the background and in comparison to the other colours.
Technical
Your lighting is fantastic, the yellw letters have a great glow to them and interesting shadows, while the others letters are not emphasised, therefore drawing the viewers attention to ASK.
Focus seems to be quite soft overall, I wonder if you used a tripod, with such a slow shutter speed I think that a tripod is vital. However the overall softness does add to the abstractness of the shot. DOF is fantastic, but with that aperture focus on the main subject would be pretty hard to achieve, perhaps a smaller aperture would have helped the focus.
My Opinion
Great shot, very original and great lighting. Good Luck in the next challenge. |

| 02/25/2003 09:08:59 PM | Modem plugby kiwinessComment: I love the yellow background, the use of DOF is great here, with the plug fading into the background. Perhaps DOF is a tiny bit shallow, the front of the plug could do with a bit more sharpness IMO, but excellent shot! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
