| 05/06/2006 12:09:40 PM | Spring Game 2006by bcobleComment: this is a nice shot. the thing is in sports pix, if you have ever noticed on the sidelines, the cameramen with those huge, bulky lenses.
Nothing is absolute, rules are there to be broken, but normally in sports photography, the action comes to the frame of the camera, and not the other way around.
This is too busy. It reminds me of a parental picture of the sons team in action. A pro sports photog waits for the action to come to them. They find a bg that is good (ie, no lines, no advertising, no people if possible) and just wait. They usually have two or three cameras with them with differant focal lengths, and even an assistant.
If done again, try to get closer, make sure to include facial expressions, all limbs if possible, the ball, action, and the opposing team if possible. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The picture itself is good. I get emotional value from the ump. If however I did not see any facial expressions, then the emotional value would be lost. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The thing is, it has no emotional value. The face of the begger would of done this, however, he is turned away from the camera. If I had seen his face, than the story would of been complete, as it is, I don't feel anything. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

In sports, this is a nice attempt. Some things to remember when shooting sports is the following, have action, get facial expressions, crop tight if possible, don't cut off limbs if possible, don't have lines going through players in the bg, don't have advertisement, make sure the pix is tack sharp, and finally (in this picture) have the ball in frame. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 04/05/2006 08:02:17 AM | Benchedby Man_Called_HorseComment: Jutilda hit it on the mark.
When I saw this moment in time happening, I thought of the young and old, and black and white thing.
But, Jutilda went further into detail on other opposites. She actually took a moment to look at the pix, disected it, and came up with some interesting stuff.
Kudos Jutilda for not just clicking through, and stopping to really see what I was after.
Anyone can make a pretty picture, but giving it a story takes it to the next level. |

Since it has both black and white prominent in the dish then a colored background, perhaps red or blue, might work better to highlight it and the dark bowl holding the oreos. The dish itself looks busy and the soft focused foreground is distracting because the eye begs to see that detail clearly. |
I agree.
A wider focal plane, instead of a pin point would of been better.
AV might of saved the blown out whites, and the blacks could use some help as well.

It is an example, IMO, and in my experience, of how a picture is taken to the next level.
No, it's not pretty, and sparkley.
It does give a mood. It tells a story within the frame itself. The blacks and whites are good, the lighting is a little flat, the 'A' looks cut out, the blood is too thick (ketchup?? try corn syrup and red, green, and blue food coloring), great comp, good movement.
Remember, emotion captivates the viewer, and an artist knows how to captivate.
Nice attempt, and under rated. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
