mill-houses.jpgby dragonladyComment: Very nice B&W, Marion. I particularly admire the fact that you have been able to retain visible detail at every point across the full tonal range, from white to deep black. I'd love to know what process you used for the B&W conversion ... was it via channel mixer? |

Cut Stoneby e301Comment: After leafing through the first couple of pages of results and not finding this image, I wondered what it had been DQ'd for .... but it wasn't there either. Instead, I find it buried here, in 198th place! I'd prefer it HAD been DQ'd rather than so profoundly underestimated.

Cut Stoneby e301Comment: This is very good; it does somehow convey effectively the muffled feel of heavy, cold, cut stone, and it does so not by showing us a close-up of the surface texture (which wouldn't work), but rather by showing us the mood created by the light ... emotional texture. It's a photograph that rewards a minute's close study. At first the highlights seem overblown, but they're not; just enough detail is there, as it is in the deep shadows on the floor. A finely judged exposure. 9
Back for a last look; I've got to select one 10, and this is it. 10. |

Natures Touchby Mordac2Comment: An elegant composition with a well selected depth of field to emphasise the texture; soft but also fine. Not the most interesting subject, but your handling of it is very effective. 7 |

Weathered Toughnessby TommyMoe21Comment: My favourite of the elephant shots; the trunk gives it life and depth. And naturally, the texture of this subject is always appealing. 8 |

Hardened Exteriorby L1Comment: An interesting composition, with palpable texture. I suppose there will be comments both pro and con the centred eye.. put me down for pro in this case. 7 |

Cymbologyby fellajrComment: There's several things I like about this. It's a very interesting composition. You've captured the physical texture well, but you have also managed to suggest both the material (brass) and, somehow, the shimmering sound; another two dimensions of "texture"! I think it's a terrific image, and I hope its qualities are not underestimated in the voting. 8 |

Hutby aznymComment: This is a very appealing composition; balanced asymmetry! The shadow of the log end is especially good. And the image showcases the several textures effectively. Also a finely judged exposure, given the tonal range you've managed to capture. Plus it's B&W ... Bravo! 8 |

Palmistryby wsteynComment: Simple but very nice. I like the lighting and the composition, which work together with the DOF to direct the attention to the most revealing part of the hand; the pads beneath the fingers. 7 |
