Challenge: Textures III (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f2.8D
Location: Stellenbosch, South Africa
Date: Jul 18, 2005
Aperture: 22
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/1.5
Galleries: Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jul 19, 2005

I tried to combine the act of touching with the texture theme and I'm not sure that I was successful.
Picture was taken with 60mm macro lens, converted to B/W and contrass enhanced. It's the first time I used NeatImage to remove noise and I was quite impressed.

Simple but very nice. I like the lighting and the composition, which work together with the DOF to direct the attention to the most revealing part of the hand; the pads beneath the fingers. 7

This really works in B&W - soft focus in the foreground is a bit distracting for me personally - 7

Ah! the first black and white I've seen on this contest, and I must say, it serves it's purpose quite well! I think it has a full range of colors from black to white... it's very clean and defined where it's supposed to be... etc... very good, I like :-)

I really like the lighting and black and white here. Just a tad out of focus.

Yes the hand shot is appealing. Especially black and white.

What works: the diagonal placement of the hand and the lighting of the part of the palm just below the fingers.

What doesn't seem to work: DOF seems a bit shallow. Seems a bit underexposed despite a couple of hot spots. The corners are a bit dark. It could be that it is too much of a closeup.

You could do palm-portraits of rich people (maybe their pets too if they're really rich) Why you could even do candid palm shots, or palm landscapes! Dont waste your talent get started today!!
