This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

Nice take on the challenge. I think this could be a bit strong with a much tighter cropping, though. Look at it with a third off the top and a third off the right - you're left with the glare and the cookie and no wasted space.

Nice take on the challenge. I would encourage you to explore multiple perspectives with subjects such as this, in order to satisfy yourself that you have found the most dynamic and interesting presentation possible.

Nice take on the challenge! And thank you for not using any selective desat!!

Nice idea, but needs a little more attention to detail. Always check your horizon and rotate so that your lines are straight. Also, your background is a bit distracting; a simple piece of poster board or even printer paper could solve that. The thing is to capture your subject in such a way that the focus is squarely on your subject, without any thing in the image to distract the viewer away from it. Keep working at it - you're not too far off.

Nice idea, but could use a little work. The exposure is a little imbalanced (not enough detail in the shadows to compensate for the strong highlights). Also, personally, I'm not a fan of bw food shots; I feel they rob their subjects.

Nice idea, but that serving spoon absolutely robs the background. A simple wooden spoon with no handle would have been ok, but as is, the contrast of the black comes across the same way a telephone pole does coming out of someone's head in a portrait. Without the spoon, and maybe with a squarer crop, I think you'd have a much stronger image.

Nice idea, but the lighting is too harsh for me and the tones aren't that inviting.

Love the shot. Love the image, love the processing.

As for your take on the challenge, though, it's not getting the idea of "dessert" across to me at all. Maybe if you'd gotten up close and personal with someone either creating, serving, sampling, or devouring a dessert. Just my opinion.

The desat doesn't work for me. It just screams shoe-horn. On the other hand, if you'd cropped it square from the left and toned it straight bw, I would have thought you'd put in a nice take on the challenge. Just my opinion, though.
