A Winter Day in Kentuckyby lecalanComment: Unfortunately there is nothing which expresses in the photo that this is a winter day. Well, you can't make snow when there is none, but for example capturing the breath of the horse would be a good thing. I mean this exhalation (? warning this is a dictionary translaion, mabye steam is the better word?) on cold days. |

The Lake is Ours Todayby ChrisW123Comment: I like the negative space. Expresses the wideness of the lake well. I would have cropped out the upper part with the woods and the shore, so that only the lake is visible. That would increase that expression even more. |

Suburbia in the Snowby DezComment: Good composition. I like how you conveyred the tightness of the building of the city. Creative take on the challenge subject! |

blueby niwedimagesComment: Good composition. I like the dramatic blue sky but the small size really ruins your photo :-(

karmacomaby stephanComment: Azrifel, I understand it must have been difficult ;-)
The spot in the yellow probably could have been avoided if I wanted to. But spotlessness is the opposite of what was actually my goal ;-) The spot is in the material, which was a banana leaf lit from behind.
The curve was an accident by a buckling in the leaf. It had no reference to the lyrics, but your associations are interesting :-)
Thanks,
Stephan

karmacomaby stephanComment: Well... I expected that my score would be low but I didn't expect it to be _that_ low ;-) But I was very very relieved that I got comments from people who know the song and said that I captured the feeling of it well. This was my goal and thus I'm happy that at least these people liked it. Catpixel even downloaded the song to hear before scoring the photo. This alone was worth it :-) Also special thanks to Mrs. Potus who was open-minded and liked the photo even without knowing the song.
To the people who said they "don't see anything" or don't get it: I don't know how to describe it... there is no specific subject or somehting "to get" that I wanted to show. It's the image as a whole which is relevant, the colours and patterns. If somebody is interested in the song, I can send it to you.
Inspizil, regarding the shadow: if it would be intended as an abstract photo only, I would agree with you. But in this case I think the shadow adds some mystery to the shot and that's certainly one key element of my impression of the song.
I'm still proud of the photo because it was not an easy task to capture a feeling and I didn't do many abstract type photos before. But I think I'll do more like that in the future ;-)
Thanks again for your feedback!

Leaving Californiaby seussieComment: Hello Susie! Your photo was assigned to me in context of the Critique Club. So here it goes:
Composition: Very good. I like the palm tree on the left and also the open space to the right, where the plane flies to. It really shows "Leaving California". I think it would look even better when the plane would be a little lower below the tree, but that's only a minor issue. I guess it was hard enough to capture the plane like that.
Lighting: A nice sunset. It gives a good lighting and makes your subjects just silhouettes. I like it.
Focus: As GeneralE said: Very good focus on the plane. It almost seems to be better focussed than the palm tree. Well done.
Art: You met the challenge very well. As said above your photo really shows what the title says. So overall my "critique" is a bit short because I really can't see anything wrong. Neither technically nor artistically.
Keep shooting,
Stephan

The New Egyptby ericngComment: Hello Eric, greetings from the Critique Club. Your photo was assigned to me, so here it goes:
Composition: Great! I like the angle you used. The shape of the building is very interesting and a nice subject to photograph. I'm not sure about the bushes on the left and right side. I loaded your photo to an image editor and cut it to a portrait format with just the palm and the building. I'm unsure if that really makes the photo better, but it's different. A bit cleaner. Almost looks like a "classic" Egyptian postcard shot then.
Lighting: Very rich in contrast. The reflections on the building are nice. I also like the blue colour but I think black&white would work even better here.
Focus: I think the focus is sufficient.
Art: It's a nice photo. It meets the challenge but in a different way than I would like to see in such a challenge. Photos of famous places you travel to do not so much convey this topic as the way other people did it by capturing the actual journey or "motion" of travelling. However, that's just my opinion and it doesn't take anything away from being a good photo.
