I don't know how many people will know the song Karmacoma by Massive Attack, but I fear not many. But the other music I usually hear is probably even less known and the challenge said to chose a song we like. Although already a bit older, the song is still one of my all-time favourites and was a big influence on the development of my musical likings.

The photo does not actually references a part of the song or what is said there. I tried to capture the mood and create a visual representation of what I think fits to the song.

I don't know how people here on DPC will like the photo. Most people will rate the photo without knowing the song and naturally won't share the same emotions I feel when hearing it but I'm kind of proud of it because I found it very hard to transform a song into a photo.

Azrifel, I understand it must have been difficult ;-)

The spot in the yellow probably could have been avoided if I wanted to. But spotlessness is the opposite of what was actually my goal ;-) The spot is in the material, which was a banana leaf lit from behind.

The curve was an accident by a buckling in the leaf. It had no reference to the lyrics, but your associations are interesting :-)

Thanks,
Stephan

Composition (content)

Arghh, this must be the most difficult picture to comment on in my whole CC career. :)

I tried to capture the mood and create a visual representation of what I think fits to the song.
I know the song, but I don't like it (music, never listened to the lyrics) to put it mildly. This image puzzles me, I don't know what I am seeing. I wan't to, but I can't. Perhaps that is a little frustrating. The mood it expresses to me is a dark and depressed one.

I have looked up the lyrics. They seem to be a bit dark and puzzled as well, so I guess you have done a good job.
..duplicate, then you wait for the next kuwait....
..i drink on a daily basis
though it seldom cools my temper
it never cools my temper....

Interesting. When it comes to drinking by the way, that could be reflected in the strange curvy flow in the top. Like the world distortions you see when you are drunk, just before you fall on the floor with the world spinning very very very hard. (I succesfully avoid that the last couple of years).

The thing that I most like about the picture itself (without the feeling it expresses) is the color and arrangement of the yellow/green texture.
The figure seems to have the profile of a teddybear. My first thought about the green stuff was a green lit LP, but it has got to many tracks.

This is something that works for you and then it is great, or it doesn't and then it means nothing to you.

Camera Work (Technical)
Was there away to avoid that spot in the yellow, left of the figure?

My opinion
I don't really know what too think of it.

Well... I expected that my score would be low but I didn't expect it to be _that_ low ;-) But I was very very relieved that I got comments from people who know the song and said that I captured the feeling of it well. This was my goal and thus I'm happy that at least these people liked it. Catpixel even downloaded the song to hear before scoring the photo. This alone was worth it :-) Also special thanks to Mrs. Potus who was open-minded and liked the photo even without knowing the song.

To the people who said they "don't see anything" or don't get it: I don't know how to describe it... there is no specific subject or somehting "to get" that I wanted to show. It's the image as a whole which is relevant, the colours and patterns. If somebody is interested in the song, I can send it to you.

Inspizil, regarding the shadow: if it would be intended as an abstract photo only, I would agree with you. But in this case I think the shadow adds some mystery to the shot and that's certainly one key element of my impression of the song.

I'm still proud of the photo because it was not an easy task to capture a feeling and I didn't do many abstract type photos before. But I think I'll do more like that in the future ;-)

Thanks again for your feedback!

I'm sorry but I don't see anything here, not even modern art. But's that's just me personally. Can't give it anything but a 1. I can't even make a good comment, not one that would help you improve it. You obvious like it, and THAT IS NOT A PUT DOWN, and I don't see anything here. So I can't help improve the photo. PTL

Jamaica and Rome-a...
I love how this photo is so abstract and hence cryptic... I think you captured the feeling of the song. "... I've nothing to give" etc. Awesome!

Sorry, I'm not aware of this song title. (Did you mean Karma Cameleon?) Interesting effect, but hard to see anything. Was this done on an LP?

Looks like someone threw a glowstick in a dryer or something, and then sat ET in front of it. I don't know the song this is, and I have no clue what I'm looking at. I'm kind of left in the dark on this shot. I am just going to take your word that it's a real song, but the photo doesn't really appeal to me. The color is good though. Good luck in the challenge.

Great abstract shot. I don't know what it is, but I don't have to to like a picture

Interesting abstract. I think I would like it better without the shadow on it - Inspzil
