Stopping the motion of the water makes it look like ice -- I don't think that is quite the sensation you were wanting to convey. But it is a sensation. :)

I have been seeing shapes in a number of things lately; grain on the ceiling, in wood, tree branches and of course clouds and such. It has made start looking at things from a minimalist's perspective -- just how much detail is needed to get the idea across? -- that sort of thing.

Then I see this image, and it is nearly a perfect example of just that. There are a couple of things I wonder about though. I know you mentioned you tried it with and without stocking, but did you perhaps try it with stockings with less of a solid feel to them -- closer to fishnet, but not quite there. The black is just a bit over-whelming. The second thing I didn't care for is more of a personal matter -- I don't care for grain -- but beyond that, I feel it detracted from the minimalistic feel of the image.

But, we each have our own ideas of how we like things.

Very nicely done on the details and colors, but the overall composition lacks interest and does not hold my attention. Framing the line that runs from wingtip to wingtip, through the eyes, slighly higher in the frame would have provided a sense of motion to the image.

Nicely captured textues. Although the focus being on the back pedals draws my attention into the scene quite well, it draws it to the distractingly busy background.

The focus, DOF and clarity are great, but the composition is a bit right-sided. Maintaining the wing in the frame on the left produced negative space that make it appear to be moving out of the scene. More negative space on the right would have helped I think.

The contrast of colors in this are great. The only complaint I have is that the center of attention in this composition seems to be the dark underbelly of the bug and that it is moving out of the frame.
