Weston on Rock Scapesby RianBotesComment: Fascinating. Somehow the pool looks very swollen to me, like a bubble. The strong shape I think is very Westonesque in a pleasing way. Focus, contrast, balance of dark and light, all are very Westony. Well done! |

Barn Windowby bassboneComment: Awesome. Weston's shots like this make me think of children's books where you are supposed to lift a flap to see what's underneath. I'm not sure what I mean by that, but I think you have captured it here. I love the reflection in the window, and I'm not sure how Westony it is, so I'll leave it alone. Nice shot. |

Pineappleby dswannComment: Nice shot. I really think Weston would have shot the underside, from the top, just the stem, or tightly cropped on the side unless he found a specimen with a very unusual shape. Aside from that, I think the focus, contrast, balance of light and dark, and framing all strongly suggest Weston. |

Norris Houseby amcroryComment: I think Weston's shots of buildings are like American Gothic. Matter of fact, centered, no frills, dispassionate. I think you've accomplished that here. I think you have great balance between lights and darks. I think this really works, well done! |

the lost shellby curtpetguyComment: I love this shot. I like how the shell is being assimilated by the wood. The shot doesn't seem Westony to me though. I don't think Weston would have made this shot. I don't think there's enough balance between the darks and lights. This is a great shot for texture, but I think Weston is far more concerned with form and the abstraction thereof in part through flattening depth. I think it misses the mark. |

A Tributeby jjbeguinComment: Nice. I would have titled this something more like Behind the scenes, Between shots, Unfinished, or Under construction Weston shot. I wish the blacks were deeper. I like your tribute. |

Bananasby michelaudetteComment: I think I see what you were going for here. Looking over Weston's banana shots I think they are tricky. Your framing/cropping definitely echo Weston. Personally I think the dynamic range (lacking sufficient darks), focus, and texture miss the Weston note. |

A Study in Texture by bcrantsComment: The texture is fantastic. Based on my read of Weston though, I don't think this hits it. I think Weston is more obsessed by form, motion, and tends towards the abstract. There is practically an X in the center of a circle on this subject at your angle, the form does not suggest motion at all, and the subject does not come off as abstract. Instead it is very matter of fact. Doing a cross section or pulling off a leaf and shooting more tightly cropped I think would really help. |

Soldiersby HeidieComment: I couldn't find a Weston shot vaguely similar. So, going off what I have found, I don't think he would have taken a shot like this. If he did, he would have figured out a way to keep all the faces in focus. Aside from that, very nice, very cool shot. |

Weston Nudeby epescalaComment: Nice homage. Somehow this shot doesn't convey Weston's dispassionate obsession with overall form. Too much attention is drawn to the left knee, in fact it almost seems framed as a focal point. Perhaps a different angle and more diffuse lighting would help. |
