Out of focus. Sorry, but sharpening can't correct what isn't already there. You need to focus on the most important part of any subject: the EYES. Very lacking in color fidelity. Compare the grey scale below to your image; there is no tonal range. Damselfly is a good subject, though.

The camera angle is awkward. Moving down and in front of the insect would have been a huge improvement.

First of all, I have two words for you: TOO SMALL. This is barely a thumbnail image. If I were taken a picture of this katydid, I would go around carefully to the other side of the fence, in FRONT of the insect and get closer. It looks too much like the insect is getting away from us, rather than getting intimate with us.

Not the worst that I have seen, but it's a butt shot. By the way, spiders are arachnids, not insects. If I were trying to get a good shot of this spider, however, I would get in front of it rather than "behind" it. The man-made and unnatural roof background detracts from the subject.

I can just barely make out that it is an Argiope aurantia or Yellow Garden Spider. The image looks like a snapshot and not very carefully composed. Get closer, much closer! Don't worry, it won't jump off of its web and bite you. The highlights are blown out and the image fidelity is very low, in other words, there isn't a very wide range of tones from light to dark, like the greyscale bar below. The white line on the bottom should have been cropped off.

The most important part of any subject is what? The EYES. Here they are out of focus. It doesn't look like a cicada in its natural habitat.

I doubt that I'm the only one to say this: that there is a lot of wasted image space. It's a butt-shot; we want to see the bees face, unless we're getting intimate with it's butt...

It seems to me that if you were already this close, you could have gotten a little closer and more intimate. A lower angle would be an improvement. The subject is too much in the middle. It looks like it was taken as a snapshot, rather than a carefully composed image.

It looks like the camera was hand held with too low of a shutter speed, and to make up for it, the image was sharpened. Color tone is a little bit too blue/magenta.

Great subject and angle/composition. The white background and lighting don't look natural, though. Taken in the studio? Deeper depth of field that includes more of the wings would be an improvement, in my opinion. Specks on the leaf are reasons that I disagree with the "no spot retouching" rule. I think we should be able to eliminate those kind of imperfections. The one on the bottom appears to be a bad pixel.
