Rad shot. More than the fear of having teeth pulled is the idea of physician heal thyself, for me. I wish the teeth and flesh tones were a little lighter -- hard to accomplish with the white shirt/robe though. The other thing I find highly distracting, but I'm not letting influence my vote, is the wart on the knuckle. I think it pulls the focus away from main subject of the shot.

Hmmmm, a fear of burning a pizza box... :-) Looks kinda cool, but doesn't really do anything for me. Hard to read the letters that are on fire, and looks a little funky since the "F" isn't burning. If I didn't know what the challenge topic was, I think I'd have a hard time reading the word.

So what did you attract them with? If anything, this seems a trifle too bright, and I wish at least one of the wasps had been included completely in the crop. At a guess, it looks like the autofocus caught the center of the shot because all the insects look slightly OOF -- some more than others. The glare along the top of whatever the things is they'er on isn't helping with the brightness problem, I think.

While it's a great fear -- and one I've already experienced, this shot is simply not interesting to me in the least.

Great shot -- wish the colors in the background weren't so flat -- but I also know how hard it can be to bring them out when you're talking that kind of distance. (After the competition's over, play with it in an editing program.) What I really want to know is what it's looking at....

Clever idea. While it's probably more true to life, I think this would have been better if the focal field had centered on the hypo and not on the lighting equipment and ceiling above. I understand that it's a fear of the dental experience being portrayed, but I think that could have been heighten by focusing on the sharp needle.

Nice B&W. Great range of tones (even if maybe a LITTLE too dark, but I think it works). Perfect expression. Doesn't make me want to laugh like some of the others this week because this looks "straight" and not posed -- like you actually caught someone in the act of being frightened.

Good idea, but it seems a little dark on my monitor -- was the boy just lit by the candle? If so, maybe a little extra light shining on his face would help. I like all the other black space on the other side of the image. Leaves us straining to look for something in the dark just as the boy is.

What -- you were abducted by a UFO? That's not scary, that's cool -- well, unless of course you start talking the whole robing and testing thing.... ;-) I dig the lights and the reflective stripe on the side, but overall, I just can't see this as that great a shot. Maybe with some additonal lights of other cars, buildings, etc? I'm not sure what advice to offer.

Love the idea, have some problems with the set up. I think I can understand why you'd use silk flowers for the shot, but in the context of the picture they seem really tacky. Would you give/expect silk flowers from your lover in terms of getting engaged? Second, the note looks typed out -- bad enough to turn someone down via a note, but to not even make it a handwritten one? And then to keep the ring and just give back the box with the note inside? If you'd used real flowers, left the ring in the box, and the placed the note off to one side in the composition, I'd have upped my score. :-)
