Never seen a pelican like that. Like how he is looking into the frame.

oh he's pretty. I ownder why they have that crescent on their beaks? I like his reflection in the water...

you didn't ask, and I hope you don't mind, but I think I would crank the contrast here just a skosh, and down the gamma a notch or two to really make him pop, as this late winter sun seems to make everything look so bleached, as you will no doubt bote as I post more images of VT this time of year! :)

Good find. I'd try playing with the curves a bit, or maybe mess with the shadow/highlights to bring out more details.

Hi Jess, noticed from your profile that you're interested in constructive critism.

My first thought is 'this image needed a tripod'. Not sure if you have one and if you don't any other system to hold your camera steady is important I think.

I spent ages thinking I didn't need one, that I had the capacity to take tack sharp images by holding myself steady - but then thankfully realised I needed more support.

At one point, I could have told you what the top one is; we have them around here quite a bit. However, my brain is blank right now. :/ Definitely, I think, (grin) chromatic aberration -- it's a digital thing. If what shalrath said doesn't help, or if you want to try to prevent it, you could do a forum search, or a google search. I know I've seen it discussed, extensively in some places.

Pelicans are such neat birds...they have fascinating mannerisms and body language. Good capture of this one swimming along! :)

They have beautiful markings! I'd love to tell you what they are but I haven't a clue. I did see another shot of one of these not that long ago... if I can find it, I'll let you know.

You caught the pair in a great pose looking simultaneously in the same direction. I can just feel how cold that water is. I don't recognize them, either.
