Ive seen this before and studied it trying to work out why it's great and how it isn't spot on. seeing your inspirational image I worked out my suggestion is the background could be a little to vibrant and if it were a softer grey/white it may have scored better in the challenge.

I wish I knew my lighting system as well as you do. Of course, I don't take the time to study all the tips at strobist and other such sites. I learn so much better from watching.
