Day 26 On the fringe of the madding crowdby
jonfrommkComment by rachelellen: Oh my goodness, your description and this picture made me think of the first verse of "Mad World", recorded (in its current incarnation -- I think it was originally a Tears for Fears song) by Gary Jules. Are you familiar with it? The verse and chorus are as follows:
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world
The funny thing is, I thought of the song just looking at the picture (how symbolic is that "Way Out" sign? wow), before I even read your description. It's a fabulous image, really really evocative and atmospheric, and I think it would be great for the street photography challenge. I promise not to friend-vote if you enter it. :)
Keep on telling those people Good Morning -- maybe you'll start a cheeriness revolution.
