Magic Stickby colorcarnivalComment by jonfrommk: Michelle,
That this picture scored so low shows only the prejudice that a lot of voters have against digital art arther than anything to do with the quality of the image itself.
Like the image and what you have done with it and I hope you wont let the doomsayers but you off tinkering some more

The Flower Fairy (Day 8)by colorcarnivalComment by skewsme: What a heartwarming story and I absolutely love your illustration for it! I would have given this a very plump score in the desat challenge - or any challenge... but it would have been especially refreshing in desat. |

No Picnic Today (Day 14)by colorcarnivalComment by jackal9: I don't see any real problems here, around the point it seems maybe just a tad soft but that may be because the background is so light. Looks good to me. I love the table buried in the sand, awesome find and fantastic title!!

No Picnic Today (Day 14)by colorcarnivalComment by alexjack: Here's what I see Michelle, first I really like the foreground - interesting and leads us into the picture, especially the diagonal of the table buried into the sand, I also like the sttrong diagonals from the (almost) LL corner to the mid-1/3 on the R and back again with the shore line, which carries us into the picture. I especially like how you've repeated the shoreline diagional with the waves. Here's what I would change in a perfect world - foreground - needs to be cleaned up, especially the two boards coming from the R and going against the curves you've established. Second, the dark blob at the upper R corner is not adding to the picture at all. Finally I'd like something to carry us into the background, the small open space on the L almost makes it but the fairly hard horizon line tends to block that a bit.
Forgot to add, technically I don't really see a problem, I do tend to prefer a slower shutter speed - say 1/15 to blur the waves, but of course thats personal preference. Sorry, I keep coming back.. the other thing that would be nice would be a bit more contrast and drama in the sky. You have these great diagonals that carry us there, but then not much is happening. Perhaps a layer with some curves or dodging and burning would help.
Overall an interesting picture and you've got some great ideas here, keep working Jack. Message edited by author 2007-05-17 20:14:15. |

On Guard (Day 13)by colorcarnivalComment by jonfrommk: Well for me the crop you chose is just right, it puts the insect on a line of third and the pov with the bars really draws you towards the main subject. Stunning clarity on the grasshopper
Another top job |

No Picnic Today (Day 14)by colorcarnivalComment by SandyP: I'm not a very good critiquer -- because I look at scenes and appreciate them so much and don't really notice the flaws if I love the scene and look of the photo.
I think this looks so dramatic. The beat-up old picnic table adds to the drama, and I love the composition where the subject is nestled in those interesting curves.
