Bull's-eyeby drydocComment by quiche: I share your frustrations with getting all the right bits in focus. Struggling with that myself (and am also eyeing a new camera ;-). Still, I think this shot came out pretty well, with an appropriate DOF. |

Bull's-eyeby drydocComment by violinist123: As a rule of thumb, barring some creative decision, you don't want to overexpose areas that contain details (think white flower petal (no) versus reflections on a chrome bumper (yes)).
Flower petals look in focus to me, though I see you added a pretty heavy dose of sharpening in post. Slow shutter speed for the focal length of that lens if you were working at the 250mm end of it. Just thinking out loud regarding your focus concerns. |

Bull's-eyeby drydocComment by aliqui: For some reason when I look at this photo the flower looks like it's 5 feet tall. The folds in the petals look like crisp white sheets.
Your whites are understandably blown in some areas. Since there's really no rules for side challenges, you might want to underexpose the image as a whole and then play with the Dodge tool to brighten select areas back up. |

Too late!by drydocComment by JerseyGenie: Love the humor. And for a long time I had a boot as a planter ... for some reason my husband didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did. And I can't say I remember getting rid of it ... but it seems to have disappeared from my garden. Wonder what he did with it.
Love this ... and love the addition of the foot powder AND the title too.
And I'd love to see one like this in a still life challenge. |
