I'm not religiousby hannekeComment by roba: I agree with rheverly, in that the cropping on the arms is a bit strange. It actually made me wonder if there was another person reaching up to take the statue away (which obviously gives the image a completely different meaning). If we could see the fold on the inner elbow, i think this would take away the question.
Still - i love the image, and the "question" actually makes you think harder about the overall image (so I guess it's not a bad thing afterall) :O) Message edited by author 2007-07-13 21:12:12. |

I'm not religiousby hannekeComment by electrolost: It is a picture of the virgin mary jesus' mother. I like the picture. The skin tone is nice and the detail is sharp. I do not like the position of the hands looks weird to me unnatural. Is that a ant or small insect on the left hand side on the arm?

I'm not religiousby hannekeComment by Bruce_the_Robert: I see here a person holding a religious statuette (sorry, I'm not religious enough to guess which one); the story I read in it is one of quiet desperation, as if by simply holding on long enough, some thing so desired or needed will happen.
Technically, the tones and details are wonderful, and the dark, gritty skin against the whiter (purer?) tones of the statuette fit wonderfully with the theme of the image. There are some bits I'm not sure about; the lower part of the face distracts me, I think because the expression is very ambiguous. Either a different, more emotive expression, or cropping out the lips would have strengthened the feel for me. The other thing is the position of the hands, which aren't really gripping, but are sort of holding, cradling (which is good). I put my hands in that position and it was very natural, but it doesn't look so in the image. I'm not sure what would change that for me (maybe more of the left arm, or a little more of both of them). |

one-twoby hannekeComment by Brad: This is entirely cool. So very natural.
I really love the effect from that f/1.2 monster.
Off to note on my calendar that Hanneke's taking snapshots.
Cool ones at that!
Stay out of your studio more often - I wanna' see where your eyes go and what's next. Message edited by author 2007-07-06 18:07:23. |
