Back Off - This One's Mine!by SJCarterComment by cornettcag: I'll bet that the owners will like this expression - it must be characteristic of Shasta. The blurred background at top is very nice as is the toy. If you can, try to better match the blur in the front paw area, paw to background or background to paw. |

another of my favourites, great expression, dreamy homely atmosphere, toy fits well... My one criticism would be the big difference on sharpness between the head and body.. I'd maybe try and sharpen the body a tiny bit to reduce that difference. |

Olivia & Shastaby SJCarterComment by Mr_Pants: An absolutely stunning shot IMO. The catchlights in your niece's eyes work really well. The only minor improvement that I feel might be worth proposing would be a little work in blending in the blur around Shasta. Great portrait. |

This was the first thumbnail to grab my attention, nice dynamics between the two characters. As i've already mentioned, imho the backdrop could be cleaned up a little. It does seem like the focus isnt as spoton as in the other photos, but this may just be lack of sharpening. The black and white works well, but it doesnt seem as though you've got full use of the tonal range. this may be just cause i spend most of my time with real b+w film :-p But yeah, reallly nice. |

I'm Ready for My Close-Up Mr. DeMille!by SJCarterComment by kirsty_mcn: from thread:
wonderful expression, nice warmth to it. personally i'm not a fan of the title, the photo seems too nice for a candid quote. There seeems to be some haloing of some description round the head (using the term loosely) which could definitely be dealt with. Also, I'm not sure if the background could be smoothed in the middle left where there's that stray white bit going into the grey stripe. But this probably isnt really necessary, i'm just trying to find fault cos its an awfully nice photo. One finally thing you dont notice til staring at it for ages, is the background above her (his?) left (from my pov) canine. Possibly been missed out in postprocessing. |

Back Off - This One's Mine!by SJCarterComment by Mr_Pants: Nothing to say here, really, other than to comment on how beautiful this shot is. Shasta's face is nice and sharp and the background is well taken-care of. On reflection, I feel that the blur could well be better if it were applied a little more uniformly. Shasta's right front paw (and, indeed, the stuffed toy) seems to be almost jarringly sharp compared to the immediate area around it. Perhaps the blur could be applied in an oval shape, rather than via what I assume is a custom mask. Message edited by author 2006-01-01 14:56:11. |

I'm Ready for My Close-Up Mr. DeMille!by SJCarterComment by Mr_Pants: An absolutely stunning expression capture here (just to declare an interest, I love dogs) and the catchlight in the eyes is a knockout. Perhaps Shasta could be a touch lighter, however, to make her stand out from the background a little more. The in-focus parts are wonderfully sharp, to boot. |
