My 5 1/2 year old niece at Christmas with her dog, Shasta. This is part of a series that I was commissioned to do for my brother & sister-in-law.

This is really interesting. Her eyes - wow. The angle of the dog in relationship to her is like an invisible line. I like it - not the typical cheesy "girl with her dog" shot!!

very nice! I would work on still seeing the hallway by the dog, a tad distracting, but still nice, I know they loved it!

Nice compo. However, I would have liked seeing her legs and feet "uncut" as well as the doglegs.

The set up here is perfect. It appears dark on my monitor, but that is my only suggestion. The expressions and the subject placements and everything else is spot on. You did just a marvelous job with this series! :)

Jim, what a wonderful emotive shot. I love the expression on your nieces face, and how the dog is watching closely over her. Nice capture.

Awesome, definitely get the sense that the dog is VERY protective and watchfull of the little girl, awesome, if you can do this on a regular basis, perhaps there could be some money made doing pet / child shots.

An absolutely stunning shot IMO. The catchlights in your niece's eyes work really well. The only minor improvement that I feel might be worth proposing would be a little work in blending in the blur around Shasta. Great portrait.

from thread:
This was the first thumbnail to grab my attention, nice dynamics between the two characters. As i've already mentioned, imho the backdrop could be cleaned up a little. It does seem like the focus isnt as spoton as in the other photos, but this may just be lack of sharpening. The black and white works well, but it doesnt seem as though you've got full use of the tonal range. this may be just cause i spend most of my time with real b+w film :-p But yeah, reallly nice.

The best of the series for me. Interesting how both sets of feet have been cut off / covered.
