The stunning unhappiness of this child is almost unbearable. We can only pray that it's not all like this, and there's a plenitude of light as well in his life. I don't know how to say anything more.
No doubt a terrific photograph. |
Rich always has a wonderful way of expressing what i can find difficult to put into words ..
the not rating this challenge .. i felt exactly the same ..
and about the child too ..
this is one photo i wont forget in a long time ..
to even have the confidence to take such a photo .. of someone suffering ..
that is what often distinguishes a good photographer from a great photographer ..
going where angels fear to tread almost ..
many congratulations on such a raw image .. and of course the blue ribbon .. :)

We'll always have Parisby LevTComment by GolferDDS: Very nicely done Lev. The drama is terrific. The way the smoke covers one of her eyes so that the viewer focuses on her looking with the other eye is so perfect for this image. It really brings out the emotion of that instant. |

Old flame by LevTComment by roz: Originally posted by LevT: Lydia, thank you for the compliment on my lighting skills! I will let you in on a secret, my daughter is a theatrical lighting designer, I must have acquired my skills from her through some kind of reverse genetics :).
mariuca yes, that bush on the way to my front door bugged me as well, but I could not find a better spot for this photo without making a much greater effort of shooting "on location". Of course, an urban environment (New York brownstone, preferably :)) would have been a lot better, but you play with what you got...
bsluijk yes indeed it would've been a much nicer explanation, although a little hard to believe in, since 1 and 10 are pretty far away on the range of scores to accidentally click on one instead of another :) |
MANY CONGRATS ON THE BLUE LEV ..
it satisfied the challenge perfectly ..
and thankyou so much for the backstory and for your replies ...
i love reading what went on behind the scenes .. :) |
