Great entry for this challenge. The upward gaze and close crop highlights the children's enthusiasm and sense of adventure and optimism in a favorite outdoor activity (hiking through the wooded trails). If the other child was looking away from the camera, this image would be even more effective. Overall a nice capture.

I think a tighter crop or a complete black background would have worked much better for this image. I like the texture but you could have balanced the light a bit more by using a reflector or a fill-in light from the right. I also think that the hotspot is a bit strong. Maybe that's what you wanted to achieve. Bottom line is this photograph has potential and it's definitely worth another try.

I love the patterns on the skin and on the shadowed part of the apple as well. The surface on which the apple is seated detract somewhat as does glare. I am not too keen on the composition, but it is okay. A 7.
