I would love to see this same shot with the same lighting on a solid black background... the wooden apple is an interesting subject to work with...

I think a tighter crop or a complete black background would have worked much better for this image. I like the texture but you could have balanced the light a bit more by using a reflector or a fill-in light from the right. I also think that the hotspot is a bit strong. Maybe that's what you wanted to achieve. Bottom line is this photograph has potential and it's definitely worth another try.

I would have cropped out the fabric underneath the apple (or better, make it very dark so no detail is visible).

I love the patterns on the skin and on the shadowed part of the apple as well. The surface on which the apple is seated detract somewhat as does glare. I am not too keen on the composition, but it is okay. A 7.

You might want to try cooling down the hotspot near the top fron side of the apple.
