I actually love this image. It is very surreal and creepy - characteristics you wouldn't expect from a baby picture - which might not be desirable for your purposes. But as an image, I find very compelling, and feel this would garner accolades from the Posthumous crowd.

Your lens choice is another factor: The classic bulging distortion of the fisheye lens you appear to have used also adds to the weirdness, as does the downward angle of the composition. Finally, the shallow dof adds the surreal, dreamy feeling.

For creating a classic baby picture, all the other suggestions on the thread are excellent.
