Emotive use of the technique here which is what I'm valuing highly as a voter. Mundanity of the scene adds to the poignancy - where two people ended their lives. We probably all imagine that our lives would end somewhat gloriously or at least in oeace, but this depicts the stark reality to the contrary.

A longer DOF would have been better and it almost looks as if the surrounding areas have been blurred which is distracting and frustrating - particularly on the barrier next to the wreaths.

Nice use of the theme (it has a purpose!!) and there's some humour too. Blue is just too saturated though and would look more slick with a bit more subtlety. In this instance I feel that no border would have been more simple and emphatic of the technique.

Aren't voters odd? Look at all those 3s, 4s and 5s - quite crazy when you look at the front page cluttered with cliches.

As it happens I too missed this pic though (due to lack of voting time) and it would have been the clear winner for me - BY MILES! Time to kick some art back to the top I think. I just love the stark contrast of man-made structure and natural form so beautifully composed.
